Hi everybody,

since yesterday, TG2 (Beta 1.10.23.1 Deep w/o animation) keeps on crashing very frequently.
The strange thing is, that it even crashes if i just start, add a power fractal and do nothing else.
I have no idea where this comes from, because i didn't update anything (really!).
Some details from Windows (description translated from German, so maybe its not perfect):

problem signature:
  problem event name:      BEX
  application name:      tgd.exe
  application version:      1.10.23.1
  application timestamp:   48fe78eb
  error module name:      COMCTL32.dll
  error module version:      6.10.6001.18000
  error module time stamp:   4791a752
  exception offset:      0009417d
  exception code:         c0000409
  exception data:         00000000
  OS version:         6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3

I'm running Windows Vista Home premium 64-Bit an a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 with 4GB DDR2 800.
Thanks for every Help and/or idea were this comes from.
Before Yesterday i never really had problems with tg2 crashing.

Regards, Goms

Is it possible other conditions on your PC are causing this?  I have absolutely nothing like this for over the last two years.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

normhol

Try this.....in edit> general preferences..uncheck "show special tooltips" and see if that works.
Norm.

@normhol: wow, thats it! strange.
where did this idea came from? or why it worked before?
however, thank you very much so far!

I'm with this comment.  As you said german? maybe something is up with the german tooltips? /shrug.

*google time*

Guess nomhol got a guess from COMCTL32.dll is the "common controls library", aka GUI stuff.  So error was getting caused by something on the gui.

BEX research: It's a buffer overflow error that is thrown by data execution prevention to prevent people from maliciously getting control through buffer overloads.  Which means possible virus infection. Or something just isn't acting right on your computer possibly.

I'd suggest a nice deep virus scan. For checking up on your computer I highly recommend Kaspersky, they have a free online virus scanner or a free 30 day trial.  If you have an antivirus id use it first maybe, and if it fails to find anything then maybe try kaspersky and see what it picks up.

or possibly its a small bug in tg, but /shrug.

neuspadrin: thanks for the info; i didn't thought about googling this stuff. Doo!
I ran an Avira Antivir scan a few hours ago, and it didn't found anything.
So, i will try with different settings and then with the Kaspersky online scanner.
So far, thank you again!

well thats good we can know its not a virus issue ;) just good to be careful.  hopefully the bug gets fixed soon, and at least there's an easy quick temp fix that works for it.

Hi,

I fixed the tooltips problem in the next private release after the beta.

i still wonder why this problem appeared just a few days ago and not the hole time.
but now it works fine again.
thank you all for your help. :)
