Strata Question

Hard Layer Altitude and Hard Layer Depth sound like the same definition to me.  What am I not understanding between these two?

This has been dealt with in another thread, but damned if I can remember which one.  I think! the difference is that the altitude deals with the external vertical height above a strata level, as against the depth, which is to do with the strata level's internal vertical dimension.  Sorry if I'm incorrect.

Thanks.  That sort of makes sense, but it isn't your explanation but my level of grasping this.  I'm not sure why it seems elusive.  I'll do a search.

I understand now -

HARD LAYER ALTITUDE is the height of the hard layer.
HARD LAYER DEPTH is how deeply into the side of the mountain this hard layer strata goes.

Clear.

In which scene in "altitude", does it use the setting of "-"?
