Hi there,
have been reading quite a lot in this very nice community, but never posted anything myself.

So here is a render I just finished.
It is based on Nikitas Canyon Tutorial.

C&C most welcomed. : )

PG

The lighting down the centre is really nice, I'd personally prefer more light on at least one rockface so we can see some detail.
Figured out how to do clicky signatures

I like this very much and understand why you might not want soft lighting or light enough to see in the shadows.  Nevertheless, I agree with PG - let's see in the shadows, if only a little.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Hi

Very nice Canyon!
I like the POV the water, the stones and the green,
but the clouds are strange :-/

I really like the contrast and moodiness in this image. While it would be nice to see some more textures, the stark contrasts definitely work for me from an artistic and compositional point of view. I definitely wouldn't sacrifice that effect to get more detail on the walls. If you can manage both, though, go for it!

I agree with old blaggard. The only thing I'd change is the clouds, which take away from the realism elsewhere.

Hey thank you all for comments and suggestions.
Well I don't think I will redo this image, mainly because there are a lot of other things I want to try out and the rendertime was over 12 h, so....

Naoo & domdib: Yes, now that you mentioned it, I realize the clouds are quite unrealistic. I kinda like them though, as I rendered lot with TG0.8/0.9 several years ago and therefore was happy to have some structured and fluffy 3D clouds here. ; )
It's hard to get nice clouds that let through enough light so that the right spots are exposed. Hope there is a way to do this via a painting shader or something (creating a little hole in the sky for the sunlight to pass).

yes you can poke a hole in the clouds with the painted shader. Difficulty is that it looks like a perfectly round whole. There would be ways around this, but these are more complicated. You could use an inverted painted "bright grey soft dot" and multiply it with the cloud fractal, so that the area where the whole is gets "thinned" enough for the sun to shine through. Lot's of fiddling, though.
