Playing around with the strata and outcrops shader and inspiration from the south west. Still needs work and advise is welcome from all.

This is a good start. Good colors and atmo and the strata are there.
If that's your subject of this image, perhaps you could show them more close up?
Looking forward to see more.

I'll reply in your other topic regarding one of the strata-type you asked about.
I suddenly remembered something.

Cheers,
Martin

I will do a close-up later tonight and post another version tomorrow.

Nice render ...need some dry shrubs...

I have done a lot of work using strata. Here's a link to a tgd file I posted. Use anything you like from it, or just hit the random button of the terrain until something good comes up.

Thanks, i will take a look at it. In the meantime this is not progressing well so i am moving onto something new and better involving custom mesas and realistic erosion. Stay tuned for a new post.

I have been able to make fair channeled erosion using a couple power fractals set to ridged noise. The Y axis gets stretched to about 1.8. If the noise octaves are kept below 1.2 they make nice channels.

Have you been able to make the illusion of having the channels look as if they flow with the terrain at all?

Also i want to make inverse erosion as well but i am sure having the colors reversed should do that. What i'd like is to have a series of mesas with inverse fake erosion going down the mesa slope but starting only a third of the way along the mesa.

CCC

I am trying to aim for something like this even though the mesas i made are from GeoControl but i'd prefer to do all of this procedurally due to the vast scales i want.

Intertesting Mojo-esque vibe from this :)

How so? I stopped using MojoWorld years ago.

To get a better idea of what i am after here is the real deal. The difficulties however lie in the inverse erosive flows and turbulent anticlines and synclines.    ::)

I use a displacement of 10, sometimes with an offset. How the channel behaves is a slope issue. Steeper slopes make straighter channels; the noise slider is used to control how much the channel twists.

Well, i am giving up on this. I can not get the erosion structures from Geo Control i need and using only procedurals will get even further away from these structures so on to something else whatever that may be.
