In this on I am trying to capture what it would look like to see a sunrise in the Puget Sound. I think the land fits but I have problems with how the clouds look, both in their shape and those blue spots on the bottom. However, I was surprised to get the sunrays since they were not intended at all. Comments and Critiques greatly appreciated.

Render time: ~10 hours
Detail: .9
AA: 8
GI: 1/1

Those are the best rays I've ever seen in TG2! So sharp!
Howgh!

Tangled-Universe

Awesome rays dude, fantastic!

Why don't you try to increase GI at least to 2/2? Maybe clouds will benefit...
But probably you have to tweak (increase) the blur radius to remove the blue spots... Or turn on the Supersample prepass.
Let us see the results! ;)

I've got another render going now, hopefully my computer will be able to cran it out by tomorrow :)

The rays are fantastic: but to me, the blue spots you don't like seem to be an authentic effect of intense light bouncing off the bottom of v dark clouds. My guess is you won't get rid of them unless you do some radical things to the clouds: e.g. tweaking the ambient lighting, shifting the scattering colour or something of that nature. And if you change the cloud seed, you lose the rays. Choices, choices...

darthvader

Correct, it is all about choices...and my choice is to massively change the scene (mostly because the water takes far too long to render so I get impatient :D ). I think that it will be a better, and more grandiose image.

You certainly followed one rule of thumb for composition (1/3 water, 2/3 sky) but with land in the background etc. you can easily change it to 1/6 of water.
If you change the aspect-ratio to something cinematic like 16:9 or 2.35:1 the sense of "grandiose-ness" can be great!

All in all your plans sound promising, so I look forward to see what you come up with!

That actually looks like a wee bit o' FOAM along the lower/right-center edge of the image, neat!  Um, is it foam and not just light reflections?   ???

darthvader

Unfortunately no foam, just some reflections  :'(

The rays are glorious and I like how it seems more realistic in the scene.  Great point of view.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Some bad news: my computer decided it was a good idea to install new updates and shut down while rendering, so it is going to be a while before the next version comes out. However, this should allow me to work on some things that are bugging me...like the atmosphere grain and the "layers" in the clouds.

That is an amazing sky! How much trouble was it to get the clouds just right?
Howgh!

I honestly don't remember, I just found ths scene when cleaning out old files on my computer...but I'll guess that it took a while. ;)
