Terragen 2.0 is here!

As you may already know, Terragen 2.0 has finally been released! On April 1st we rolled out the first 2.0 versions to everyone who had pre-purchased Terragen 2. On Wednesday, 22nd of April the downloads for the Free Non-Commercial edition went online, and we launched our brand new website. There were a few minor glitches and problems we needed to fix over the first few hours, but we think we now have all the major components up and running. Please continue to let us know of any problems.

I'm really pleased with the positive response we've had to the new website. It is certainly long overdue, but although the initial design was completed over a year ago we decided to hold it back until the release of Terragen 2.0.

Terragen 2.0 is now available to all pre-purchasers, new buyers, and anyone who just wants to try the Free Non-Commercial Edition. The current build is 2.0.3.1 for all editions.

On 22nd of April we also announced a collaboration with Xfrog, Inc. to bundle all 1300 of their XfrogPlants models with Terragen 2 with Animation for the price of $699. This entire collection of plants usually only retails in bundles which add up to nearly $2000 or more, so our new offering provides great value for money. Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants bundle is shipping now from www.xfrog.com and comes on 4 DVDs. Anyone who has previously purchased a license for Terragen 2 can obtain a discount from registrations@planetside.co.uk so that you only pay the price difference. The DVDs also contain exclusive video tutorials for Terragen 2.

Of course, Terragen 2 can import objects from a variety of sources, including OBJs from Xfrog's smaller plant bundles which are available for $149 and up. We are also continuing to discuss other plant bundles with Xfrog, and you should also look around our forums and at the independent www.terragen.org for free objects from some very talented people who we are proud to call Terragen users.

Also not to be overlooked are the 15 FREE plant objects from Xfrog/Greenworks which you can download from the Terragen 2 Free Non-Commercial Edition page:

If this doesn't work for any reason, please contact registrations@planetside.co.uk with your full name and email address and we will be happy to send you download links upon verification. If you have subscribed to our mailing list you should have already received an email earlier this month. Contact us to be added to the list.

We would like to thank everybody who has followed Terragen over the years, and especially those who have put down their money to support us while our software was pre-release. Terragen 2 would not be here today if it weren't for your trust in the value of our product. Thank you!

I will also publicly thank the rest of the Planetside team here. Something that started for myself as a personal hobby project has turned into a professional product and a viable business capable of providing support to its customers thanks to the tireless commitment of my colleagues Jo Meder, John McLusky and Oshyan Greene.

Lastly, we know that there is still work to be done. Our job doesn't stop here. We will continue to release minor updates as problems are fixed. Bigger developments are also ramping up - we have started laying the foundations for converting Terragen 2 to 64-bit (although Terragen 2 already benefits from 64-bit operating systems if you have one). Animation features will be greatly improved this year. The renderer will become better at dealing with scenes that use lots of memory, and we will continue to improve rendering speed and stability on difficult scenes.

I hope you enjoy using Terragen for many years to come.
