Hi All,

I'm currently on the point of creating a reservoir and need some nice looking dam to fit the rest of the scene. Does anyone know about some decent dam object downloadable for free  ???

With something like a dam I would have thought you'd need to build your own since it will have to conform to a specific landscape, depends on the dam of course. Most dams that come to mind have a concave curve facing the body of water and towers and structures at the edges. Start by placing an orthographic camera right above your area of interest and use the micro exporter to export just the area of terrain you need. You should then be able to make a dam to your exact requirements and get the positioning bang on.

Thanks Richard, I'll try to work it out. Do have any suggestions which software could be the best to create this dam thing?  :)

All you need is a paint program for editing textures, plus:

Modeling:  www.anim8or.com
UV mapping: www.uvmapper.com

Do you have some sort of project file/reference? I could help in the modeling of the dam if you need....bye.

Look into Autocad engineering models used for stress testing such projects as federal dams. I am pretty sure that software such as Pro Engineer have been used on such individual models for hypothetical projections concerning public safety. If the government has funded a dam the specs, docs and even 3d graphic data should possibly be available for review by students/acedemics.
