Node window

I've been away from TG for a long time, in fact, since shortly after TG2 came out.  At that time and now, on a new high-end computer, the node window is useless because there are colors streaked over the tiny words so they can't be seen properly.  I don't like working with nodes anyway and wonder if it isn't just as possible to work through the menus.  I've been clicking that window off.  I really loved the old TG - it was so intuitive - and like the idea of being able to import objects, etc., but this is not a friendly program any more.

Right click the shortcut.  Under target, at the end of the line put -nonetworkview.

My target line looks like this (on a 64bit os)
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Planetside Software\Terragen 2 Deep Edition\tgd.exe" -nonetworkview

Then when you start up it will only show the 3d preview unless you actually switch over to the network view tab.

Also, everything is possible from within the menus really without touching the node network, unless you are doing some crazy stuff where node network can make it easy (and importing/exporting clips).

Sometimes to get better results the necessary evil is for it to have a slightly larger learning curve for new features.

You can do almost everything you need to do using the "Node List" on the left of each layout. You can basically ignore the "Node Network" view altogether (or remove it entirely as neuspadrin suggested).

I am relieved I can do without it.

I tried your suggestion but the window still comes up.  I have XP home (32) - would that make a difference?  (I did a copy/paste just to make sure I did it right.)

He's on a 64 bit OS so the install path is incorrect. In fact, if you didn't install TG2 to the default directory, his instructions wouldn't work in any case. If you've installed to the default directory *and* you own the Deep version (you're not using the free version), then this should work:

"C:\Program Files\Planetside Software\Terragen 2 Deep Edition\tgd.exe" -nonetworkview

Remember to copy/paste so you include the quotation marks.

If that doesn't work just edit your existing shortcut and add -nonetworkview to the end of it.

So sorry, but I've tried it 4 times with the shortcut and also the listing in the programs and nothing changes.  (I do have the registered version.)

You know it could be a driver issue with your graphics card so make sure that your driver is up to date, sounds obvious but it might be worth while cheeking any way; once your graphics card driver is updated see if you still have the same issue! I have heard of color bleed though into text before in other applications, and it was mostly solved by people updating their graphics card driver to the latest version.

Regards to you.

If you navigate to the install directory and create a new shortcut to tgd.exe, and add the -nonetworkview at the end of it *after* the quotes, it should work. Then you can copy this shortcut to the desktop or Start menu wherever you want it.

I doubt this will work, but I'm attaching my shortcut to this message in a zip file (if I don't use a zip it just attaches my tgd.exe). If it's the same path it might actually work on your end.

Success!  Oshyan, your zip shortcut worked!  I know I copied the others right but yours worked!  Thanks so much!  And I am re-registering with the Ashundar site to get tips and helps.  I know you have helped me long ago and it is good to know you are still there for those of us who are clueless!  I have been away from TG for so long - death in the family, move, etc., but I plan to keep at this.

And thank you, Cyber-Angel.  I knew my drivers were ok because I just got this new gaming computer with the latest of everything.  (And it sure does render TG fast!)

Oshyan

Glad to have you back then! And glad to help. :) Have you always gone by CCB or would I have known you by another name?

I probably went by Christina then.  I can't remember because I was also registered in Renderosity and Terranuts and I don't always register the same way.  I do remember getting good advice with a couple of problems from you and you were always patient with newcomers.

I got this new high-powered computer just to use with TG so I'd better get down to learning it all over again!
