spikes
July 24, 2009, 10:55:38 PM
hi
im trying to make a alien world with weird looking vertical spikes coming
out of the ground but (naturaly) i dont know how to do it.
i was thinking that you might be able to use functions connected
to a hight field shader to place them where you want them.
any help would be great

I have had a lot of luck (and frustration) with this using small scales in power fractals. Use the vertical offset on the displacement tab.

Throw in a clamp function set to the size you need. It should correspond to the smallest scale you use.
A different method, with more control, would be to use an image for the displacement. This method might be easiest, I've never tried it.
