wow, pretty awesome mood in this! I was thinking about adding stuff there, but I find it's not necessary. Great as is!

Love the mood and pov - the outcrops and stones are great - I have yet to play around with those in any great detail

Seth, quit playin' around.   ;D

Excellent.

Is this using some of your ideas from your metallic render?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Seth

thanks guys ! :)

yes calico, I used the same kind of shaders and the same reflectivity as I did in "Mercurae" ^^
I created a canyon, added some fake stones and then I put my Big Fat Atmo, add some AO... and hit render button ;D

rcallicotte

You make it sound so easy, Seth.  Brilliant.

Reminds me of the movie Terminator.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

I know this question must have been answered a million times, but I've seen images like this posted before; but how do you get canyon walls like that and more importantly can you do so easily to an existing terrain project you working on?

Also is the technique some thing scalable, that can be applied and restricted to specific parts of the terrain only, but say using a Painted Shader or is it such that it most be applied to the terrain as a whole? ;D

Regards to you.

Dang, that's a mean looking canyon...almost enough to make small children cry. Nice job!

Here is my way...
Nikita did a good tutorial about this technique if I remember correctly...
But if you want something scalable and using a paint shader I suggest you the Tech Pack from T-U  ;D

Thanks for nodes Seth, quick question can the Height-Field Shaders be replaced with Power-Fractals, just out of interest? ;D

Regards to you.

Cyber-Angel  ;D

Seth

mmmh... I don't think so...
I use the 2 heightfields with 2 twist and shear pointing in different direction...
the heightfields ARE the walls of the canyon. Maybe you have an idea in your head that can allow you to get rid of these heightfields ^^
it is a pretty quick solution to get canyon walls if i can say so...

Cyber-Angel

Thanks Seth, I will try out your node network on another terrain first before trying to implement it on the real image.

;D

Regards to you.
