Rocks - Surface Layer shader a problem?

Hi there.

I created a rock and attached a displaced surface layer as one of its shader nodes.  Leaving it out gives the rock an unrealistic appearence, whereas leaving it in makes it look great (in my opinion anyway!), but seems to cause the rock faces to come apart.

Anyone able to help with this?  JPG of render and tdg attached...

Cheers,

Eoin.

Hi,
Increasing the number of faces to 1000+ removes most of the cracks.

Aye - that it does (see attached), but it also has the side-effect of smoothing the entire mesh, whereas I'd like the rock to appear slightly more jagged.

Any other suggestions?

Would a sphere give you your desired result?

EoinArmstrong

Only if I could play with the vertices ;)

As above, I'd like some sort of jaggedness to remain

Try reducing displacement a bit. Also see if "Use smooth normals" has any effect. Displacement of objects is still not ideally handled.
