Hi, just a wip. Ive been looking at this for way to long and need a fresh set of eyes for critique. Thanks for viewing  :)

The mountains seem pretty good, but I think your image is suffering from a lack of a middle ground - there is the dense foliage of the trees, and then the mountains, with nothing clearly visible in between. That makes it difficult to establish a sense of scale. Maybe if you lifted your camera up a bit and angled it down slightly, a midground would come into view. Also, it might help if the snow didn't come right down to where the trees are. Lastly, some clouds would be nice  ;)

It looks like the foreground trees have enough elevation so water could be used in the middle ground. It would reflect your mountains and look fantastic. I would have the snow layer start higher up the mountains slopes. Some more trees climbing the slopes would help also. I think they should follow the gullies between the mountains shoulder ridges.

Hi, thanks for the comments. Ive changed it a little by putting in a lake in the foregound and tweaking the models, but im strugling creating a convincing shoreline. Will have another version up hopefully this evening

Updated, not so happy with the water or trees yet but getting there

Try using less displacement and smaller wave size on the water. It will help give more reflection of the background.

This is much better. If you would like to add some clouds, just render an atmosphere shot. Then you can import it back in using a default shader for the background. I do this to make the test renders faster, since they do not have to render the cloud layers every time.

This is now looking very nice. It just shows the value in persisting with a scene, something I learned with the recent NWDA contest. The lighting is good, and the trees and water, and the shoreline displacements are great. Apart from adding clouds, (nice tip from njeneb) if I had one suggestion it would be to slightly shift the POV. This looks as if it's being taken from a boat. How about another camera on the far shore?

Thanks for your comments  :)

Unfortunately the way i have displaced the terrain to get my lake means that there is now no shoreline behind me :( So i cant do that type of POV, which i agree would work well. I am also pretty bad at doing clouds and i notice a lot of nice images from other people here get away with not having any. But i am giving them a go to see what happens but i cant make ay promises  ;)

Another small update:

You have changed water reflectivity, have you? Or is it something else? It definitely gives a nice touch to the image! :)

If you are concerned about your cloud quality, there are a lot of good samples in the cloud library in the File Sharing section. Or if you're prepared to spend just a few dollars, NWDA sell some great clouds.
