I prefer the first one, they're both uber-cool though. Are there two planet atmospheres there? It looks like the atmosphere flattens off on the left.
Figured out how to do clicky signatures

Jack

two atmospheres make up the main planets atmoshere but the blast wave was done in photoshop As the idea only came to me after i had finished rendering though it could easily be done in terragen i think.

the actual cloud explosion was done with a mini planet set underground i then added a thick cumulus layer 4000 metres thick and got it to cover most of the mini planet i then set the altitude to about 12,000 meters to get this orb like cloud formation

Hey Sparky!  The first one is awesome.  A couple little artifacts to brush out on the lower left.

EDIT!  LOL - my bad eyes!  ::)  -Bill .

I prefer the first one too. I think for scale you made the ship (1 or 2 ?) so little...But i would like to see it  a little more big.If it is 1 ship the shadow seems not right . If it is 2 ships it is not very clear..
Nothing much other things to nitpicking  ;D
Really nice one.

Kadri.

Jack

its actually 3 ships lol! i made them that small because i wanted it to have such a contrast to the explosion

I wish you had a Flickr account. I often put someone in my contact list on a slideshow. Your stuff is great; I'd like to see more of it.
The first one is the best.

Hey matrix! You changed your icon!
They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

Super cool idea! These images tell a whole story... maybe some sort of particle experiment an a space facility went wrong and now just a second before the three ships are swept away an unmanned satellite or something sends this image back to earth 8)
I like the second one best, it has this baaad green ;D

just for the record, the first time i saw these two renders i thought the spaceships were just render artifacts.
