Hi guys

do you recall this old render of mine? http://www.planetside.co.uk/gallery/f/tg2/frank_basinski_volcano_valley.jpg.html

... made back in 2006 with an earlier alpha version of TG2.

I felt lucky today and just reloaded this old thing into TG2.

This is what came out. It's interesting to compare the old and new one next to each other.

Cheers,
Frank

Wow, what an improvement.. I would say the old picture from 2006 is good but the improved one is alot better..
I really like the, blurish/hazy effect which is just above/behind the trees and up on the hill, small effect, huge impact in my opinion..

Nicely done
Learning history and science, wait,
Knowing that, will that put food on my plate?
Yeah, can I walk into McDonald's, into the counter,
And tell them you can make limestone from gunpowder,
Will they give me a cheeseburger if I know that shit?

Both are great, but it's clear that TG2 has improved - the sharpness of the foreground and the realism of the lighting. Having said that, I really love the little clouds on the left of the older render.

Wow!  Never would have known it was this dramatic!  -  Bill .

It's a nice comparison. I do like the quality of the new render much better. Thanks for making these. I think the Planetside staff would be happy to actually see the difference there efforts have made. 8)

Overall rendering quality is definitely improved, and I for one like the new clouds. But I do prefer the tree lighting in the old one, especially in the left side where the edges of the trees are lit up.

thanks everyone. I also do think the improvement in render quality has gone a long way.

@Osyhan: yeah, agree. Part of the difference is probably in different steps in postwork with levels and such.

Rendered another time, brightened leaf texture.
Now in really big: http://nwda.deviantart.com/art/Volcano-Valley-2009-144214512

2400x1200, 1 MB so it doesn't fit in here.

I think it's kinda cool this size, although I (still) hate the cumulus from 2006. Probably I give it another shot with completely new cloudscapes.

Cheers,
Frank

I like the sky and lighting much better on the second one. The green pointy bits og the midground hill should IMHO be more rocky.

Great terrrain, the flowers are perfect and I love the vastness and grandeur of the scene.

A really great render Frank. I still like Germany Skies better.
4.5 hours to render? Wait until I get my new computer with the 16 core, I9 processor. ;D

They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?
