Thank God we do not have a ring system. It would be very difficult to have communication satellites if there were. It's hard enough with the man made debris. That said, nice post. ;D

I'm thinking that the rocks in the ring should be pretty stable.  Couldn't you park stuff in a stationary orbit among some big cluster?

The Star Treks I have seen have had very unstable rings. When you have Star Trek, why turn to science?
Actually Saturn's rings are very perturbed because of its moons. The rings seem to be laced together. Our moon may have a similar effect.
