Pixel filter explanation...please!

Could someone please explain the various Pixel Filters in the Render boxes under the "extra" tab.
I've tried three different types and noticed only slight differences.
Box, Tent, Narrow Cubic, Cubic B-Spline (soft), Mitchell-Netravali, Catmull-Rom (sharp).
Which is better to use...what are the advantages and disadvantages??? .....close ups, clouds, distance....what filter do you use and for what reason???
I'm sure some take a longer render time and are less detailed...which ones?

Give that thread a go, Markal. Oshyan did some good examples of each pixel filter from the link that I posted, onwards. :)
