Creating Tunnels/artificial Valleys?

Hi,

I´m just listening to "Rendevouz with Rama" by Arthur C. Clarke and maybe someone heard of a construction called "O´Neill-Cylinder"
Its a big spacestation-like tube where the inner side is habitable.

I now started to get to know Terragen2 and I see a lot of Mountains with rough cliffs, but the question is wether it is possible to create a tunnel/tube shaped landscape, or at least a bathtub shaped smooth valley.

Alternativly does some know a Programm/Method to directly manipulate the heighfield to besides a normal 3D Programm.
I tried my old "Nem mega 3D terrain editor" for creating Counterstrike maps which works perfectly but can not export the right file type.

Cheers

Nice thanks, I dismissed this one at the first look because the the half circle bend on the y-axis was made with mountains, but now I see that there is also a bend in the z-axis.
If its possible to create a whole ring it must be possible to create the valley in the same way.

Do you have an Idea how he shaped the ring?

Its difficult and almost everything is working against you but it can be done. I promised a tutorial and it will be forthcoming but I still have to finish the project, write the damn thing (lol !!) and none of that will happen till I can find a gap in my work schedule.
Take a look through the thread above. The basic idea is a plane highly displaced by two shape shaders. To make a ring you'll need two planes, one for the upper half and one for the lower half.
Place your mountains in above your shape shaders and be aware that slope and height for your surface layers will be pretty hard to get right, slope almost impossible and height just plane hard! You'll be breaking all the rules, doing stuff Terragen was not intended for but the results can be astonishing.
Good luck and be sure to post your results.

::)  How much is your hourly rate , Richard ?
It looks like that would be much easier! LOL !

Joke aside i am waiting too for your tutorial :)

Fluless i can not see your picture! There is a problem with imageshack!

@Kadri:
Try this, there is also a very old but impressive 2D animation + an explanation about all the algorithms he used

@cyphyr
Nice of you to do a tutorial. I´ll start studying some basic tutorials and then I report back. :)
