I really do not like the camera control in TGTP as much as regular Terragen because you could just specify where the camera is and what the subject was. It was far more straightforward. Anyone else agree?

I agree that it was easier in TG 0.9, but TG2 has so much more pwer and is such a different system that that old simple approach just isn't feasible.

There is a great deal of discussion already here on this topic: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=115.0 The basic answer is that we will be implementing further enhancements to the camera system to make it easier to work with but it will never be able to be fully like the TG 0.9 system because of the fundamental differences in TG2 and the much greater scope and scale of the terrains and scenes you can work with. But you can rest assured it will get easier in the future, at least.

In the meantime I suggest you read the documentation here and consult the Help->Mouse And Key Settings menu option to make sure you are familiar with the hotkey setup for your particular system and then spend some time getting to know the camera functions. Many people find that it's actually much smoother and more intuitive to use than TG 0.9 once you get used to it (myself included). The only major issues with it right now are lack of a "fixed height above terrain" option and slow performance on low-end computers. Performance will be improved in the future and a "fixed height" option should also be possible.
