well, i'll try this again. after taking everyones comments into consideration in my first render, i decided to do something different. it's a work in progress but just thought i'd share since im done for the moment. the scene uses walli's pine and grass patch with xfrog red poppies. i spent a lot of time learning new things, and definitely worked on my problem of over saturation in my last render.

i know it's not very original and exciting, but it's kind of like a big step up for me since my first. now i just gotta figure out what to do with this next.  :-\

Nice concept - it would seem that the grass and poppies should be a little less tall and more densely populated - I like the trees :)

I think making the grass less high in places would do the trick. Adding more density, or using the Cleavers from the XFrog sampler mixed in would look good.

Nice.
It is subjective but what  about making the pov 2 times the high?

hi guys, thanks for the replies. it's still a work in progress i think seeing as there is more i'd like to do. maybe i'll give a go at making the grass and poppies more densely populated. i was actually thinking that myself but the more tighter i tried to make the grass the longer it was taking to populate it. i mean really long. and i was actually covering quite a bit of area so that just added to it as well. i've been trying to find a hill to put this stuff on that had a smaller viewing area so i could just populate the immediate viewing area and get them closer without the insane populating times, if that makes sense.

i think the grass actually looked more tall because i was so close to the ground. the vheight was only like 1m or a little above. but maybe cutting the grass height down a bit wouldn't hurt. ill give that a try.

i'll look into trying the cleavers. i haven't really had a lot of time to explore all the plants of xfrog just yet. ill try it and see how they look. thanks for the suggestion.

i was actually thinkign that to, to get a better shot of the trees, but at the time i was doing this, i wanted to get as close of a ground shot as possible since my main focus was the poppies, and i wanted to get as good of a detailed shot on them as possible, but im going to try a higher shot.

by the way, for anyone who might know, does terragen have a way that you can apply like a random bend to plants? to give plants more a natural leaning over or droopy look if you'd like, so they're not just so straight and so uniform. i do some work in 3d max and have done some outdoor scenes with plants, and could apply a bend modifier to the plants to give them random leaning over looks, but im not sure if terragen can, or some kind of work around that won't take me ages. thanks again everyone! ;)

TG2 can't make changes to imported geometry like that at the moment. You can use displacement to a very limited degree, but to actually change the shape of an imported object, you'd have to do it in a 3rd party modeling application.

You may be able to use the procedural grass to fill in the space between the modeled grasses. This might help with the huge populations, which do increase render times and RAM usage.
