Does anyone have some ordinary people walking, standing, sitting, pointing at something (like you would encounter in real life) lying around? They are just to give some idea of size, so needn't be high poly, high tech stuff. They'll end up as millimeters or a centimeter of pixels. I thought I'd ask, before I spend time making them... willing to trade of course. On the internet I only find weird puppets, space men, or expensive high poly people.

ps. I did these in XFrog some time ago, but they are just not good enough. A little better would be fine.

There should be some human figures available for Lightwave. There is probably a link to them. Lightwave 3.5 had a human model and a cow that I remember.

You could try Daz 3d.
Its free and there is quite a bit of free content. The quality is not great but for distant shotsmay be good enough.

It seems this is one of them. There are many others.

Edit: I looked at the models. There are many but not so much in poses you want , Dune .

And you could check in the Google 3D Warehouse... http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=people&styp=m&btnG=Search

I'm not sure if the free Sketchup has a .skp to .obj exporter but I have Sketchup if you want any converting done. I messed around a while back with some architecture from there and the meshes convert fine with a little work. :)

EDIT: I found the thread, you need to export as .3ds, the .obj exporter is a little dodgy... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7775.0

Thanks, guys. I'll check it out. And thanks for your offer, dandel0, I'll keep it in mind.

There is quite a nice Sketchup library. I did a test and you can download a Trial of the Pro version which lets you use it for 8 hours. Should be good for quite a few 3D exports...

Great idea, DandelO!

Here's an example, a few issues with the mesh, but not noticeable from a distance.... 500KB for the OBJ file.

You are not obligated to buy the pro version of sketchup to export .Obj. I am free I will get is very good (apart from the fact that textures are not preserved ...). Ah, this is very interesting. Thanks for all your input. I don't want to ask too much work from Dandel0, so I'd prefer this latest idea. Downloaded some 15 characters yesterday, see if one or 2 are ok to use.
