This is an experiment with camera exposure and lighting. I used Marc Gebhart's Sugar Maple and Beech. Walli's Grass and Pines.

Camera Exposure 2.5
Global Illumination 2.03059 for surfaces
Global Illumination 0.0920541 for atmosphere
GI detail 2
GI samples 2
Supersample Prepass
Render Detail 0.25
AA 3 with a Narrow Cubic filter
Render Time 3 hrs. 41 mins.

Henry,

I think I'll try out your settings. I like the render.

man, only .25 render detail and AA of 3? love to see what this would look like with an AA of 6 or even 8 plus 0.8 or 0.9 detail. good work!

I have to agree. This is quite nice for the settings!!!

nice results for a low quality render...though the time seems more than what I wouldv'e expected?!

Exactly my immediate reaction on seeing such low Detail and AA settings.
Good quality for such low settings, though.

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

Please remember that I am using a single thread on a Pentium 4 HT. But I am one step closer to a faster computer. I bought a 23" monitor (Dell ST2310) that is really awesome compared to the Dell 1706FP I was using. I can see more color and the contrast is 700% better.

@ njeneb...reminds of when I was trying to render on my old imac 400(mhz processor)...10 gb hd, 1.5 gb of ram!!
not so long ago ...

Until about 2 years ago, this was still a reasonably fast machine. :'(

Yeah, with the i9 suppose to be out in June or July and that should push the higher end Q9000 series Quad Cores way down in price. When you get one of those this image will render in a few minutes, so hang in there cause the prices will drop later this year!!!

Dell has been showing I7 processors between 2.6 and 2.8 gHz with 12 GB or ram for about $1200.00. They are pretty bare boned systems, but all that is needed is a good Graphics card to go with them. By the time I can get the cash together, I should have a strong system for about four years.

I finished the lighting so I am happy with it. I need to model a Hudson River Packet Steamer now. I think it would look great in this image.

way too dark, Henry. You should "dare" more exposure ;)

Henry Blewer

I will have to when I add the streamboat. I saved the EXR image also, to play with... ::)
