the problem with these dunes is that they resemble dunes to a certain degree, but they don't look like the real thing. The render that tiwiwine did came closest to it, from what I've seen so far. Problem were the mysterious spikes.

I have tried to make dunes with the wind ripples on the low slope angle side. It's a real bear to get the settings right. I never did find out how to keep the ripples off the low slope angle part of the downwind side.

So, given that I'm a total newb here, how do I load that sand dune file. I figured out it's a so called clip file, a preset, how do I load it?
Thanks

It was a quick five minute thing. I would have taken longer to experiment further but i have more important matters right now.

Just connect it to your compute terrain node.

That's true, but I think he means how do you get to it to "load" it.  I had the same problem, thinking it has to do with "Add something" menu option.  It doesn't.  It's under File -> Insert Clip File, then wherever you saved it.  Then, find the last node labeled Sand Grain Sparkle, [in the node network under Terrain] and connect the output to the default Compute Terrain input. [NOT Compute Terrain_1].  There nice dunes.

Otherwise, I feel for you.  I'm waiting for better dcumentation, too, but in the meantime, have at the many fine tutorials here and have a blast experimenting!
