What if a user could take any imported heightfield and Terragen 2 reads the height data and converts over into a synthesized procedural terrain. Then it could be instanced allowing size variation, rotation, seamless bordering, scattering and so on like any instanced object. Probably to involved to ever happen, however it would give much power to heightfields created in software like GeoControl and World Machine while allowing Terragn 2 to add it's additional procedural flair to the pipeline. Sense it does work kind if like making vector images from rasterized images so doubtful to cover an entire planet due to memory limitations but it could serve as making much larger terrains overall.

That would be extremely difficult to do, at least procedurally. But doing it with image/terrain samples is already possible:

I figured as such. I suppose the next best thing to do is import a lot of seamless heightfields.

I know about the World Machine plugin but last i checked he never integrated it into World Machine 2.

Correct. Email him and request it! ;D

I'll think over it. Not much into World Machine any more. More of a GeoControl user myself.    ;D
