There's a site called "Giveaway of the Day", which has a free application every day. You only have a 24 hour period to download and activate each offer. The site is here:

Terragen is "well behaved" as far as its use of system resources, but there are many programs out there that can bring your computer to a stall or seemingly "locked up" situation.
