Title: strange dots
Post by: Dune on April 28, 2017, 12:20:33 PM
I want to use a color adjust (or lineair step) to get what I want as a scale filter for the fractal warp, but I get these strange dots when objects (bushes) are present. Seems like miscalculated shadows/lights, because soft shadow has influence, and force all edges doesn't do anything with them. Compute terrain (even small patch) isn't helping either.
Then I thought to use a smooth step scalar with the same values as the color adjust. They look (preview) almost similar, but the effect on the scale filter is striking and not what I want. But the artifacts are gone!
So this is a dilemma and a question about the nature of these two: lineair step and smooth step. What can cause the miscalculation of shadows/lights?

Never mind, found it.

What caused it? Very nice render :)

It seems to me a GI related thing; crops were always displaying the tiny light dots/triangles (and initially I did nothing but rendering crops), but rendering the whole thing went fine. Perhaps the warp of the planet wasn't being calculated well in those crops for lack of information about stuff outside the crop. Padding might have helped. Anyway, glad it works  :)
