I'm getting nearer to being done with this now. This one, I think, is far better than my old setup.

I'm rendering another test render at the moment from low orbit. If the next few test renders come out as I hope I'm going to call it done.
C & C welcome.
Wow Stephen, these look pretty awesome ;D
Cheers,
Martin
Wow - that's awesome good - looks like a movie effect :)
Nice clouds :)
Kadri.
Looks excellent.
:o
There are some pretty good looking formations in there :)
Thanks. Here is another test render from close to the surface.

Yeah man, almost perfect if you'd ask me. The only small features you could improve are those very bright and smaller speckled clouds. They stand out a bit too much (previous render as well maybe).
I really like the lighting on the clouds here. Fantastic! :D
Cheers,
Martin
Looks good nvseal!
cool, but a question: can you post an example with less coverage, larger, and softer features?
Cheers,
Frank
I agree with Frank. The coverage is quite high in the last image. And the smaller clouds lighting is too bright. But that may be fixed by eliminating them.
It's awesome looking as it is. You have come a long way with this. It's nice to see your hard work working out.
I agree about the clouds Martin. Those clouds and some blend shader issues are on my to-polish list.

That is what I'm working on right now that will show more low level clouds without being so overcast but it is going to take a while to render (this one took about 29 hours on a 3.2 ghz dual core). The task of fixing these little issues is actually quite short, but the render times are so long (with the 7 cloud layers) that most of the time is spend doing test renders.
seven??? :o

seven??? :o
Yes. In fact, there are 8. Only I haven't been using the 8th since the acceleration cache needs to be turned off on it and I can't stomach the render times with it - but the clouds it makes look good though ;D.

;D ;D ;D
Here a layer, there a layer, it all adds up ;)
I hope you don't do all your test renders in that resolution considering the render times, or at least hope you use crops...
This does look great!
Can't wait. ;D
Okay, here is a render that is not so overcast. There isn't any discplacement in this one as these are all from the cloud development file. The camera is about 260km above the surface. Most of these are low level clouds; I'll try to find someplace with more of a combination of high and low.

@blackhole: can't you resort to using a less invasive form of expressing your appreciation, please?
Thanks.
That looks pretty awesome Stephen, really like this version, great work! :)

Yes please!
Very good sky!
Those look real good!! Are they going to work with your planet pack? Because that looks like a different planet.
After fooling around with 3dguys settings, I can see why you are using so many layers.
Now that I'm starting to get the 2500 parts in this steam punk station under control, I'll have to look at the clouds again.
It's not easy that's for sure!! I need a bank of 40 or so computers to work on!! ;)
Oshyan, if you monitoring, could you please delete Blackhole's smiley post!!!
It's screwing up the thread, it lags my typing down, type a paragraph and it takes 30 sec. to make it to the screen, and his post is the only thing that could be doing it. Thanks
Really nice looking clouds :P
Regards,
Terje
Jeez - they're amazing - pat yourself on the back :)
I'd say they're ready for prime time. Any word on when we can expect them?

They will work for the planet pack but are not designed for rendering from the surface - 100km is about as low as I would go. The planet here is just a simple planet object as the file is only meant for the clouds.

I've got two more test renders to run before I call it done. Once those are finished and if there are no major issues I find in them, I'll call it done. I was aiming to release this past week but I think this week will be the release.
I like your newest image very much, although it's just meant to be a test! :D
I have to admit that I'm curious how the clouds would look from 100km or lower?!
super amazing global clouds :) :)
Thanks for the comments.
Here is another render, this time with a combination of both low and high level clouds.

Now This Is Awesome! This is about as real as a photo from space. I think that because I know this was rendered, my viewpoint is skewed.
Stunning! Amazing work on this :)
Just wow! The detail is astonishing!
you've nailed it, Stephen! That's it.
Fantastic work!
Fantastic Stephen! ;D
Congratulations!
Cheers,
Martin
Incredible!! I'd love to see the last image with a lower elevation of the sun to get this nice reddening of the (fantastic) clouds.

That'd be really cool indeed :)
The only minor issue is the lowest center cloud banks. The large scale pattern looks very angular but this is probably a fractal noise/turbulence limitation. Other then that everything looks very much like seeing it right out of a Orbiter window.
A real good Great!
Here is a test render from inside the atmosphere at 40km high. Postwork done in photoshop with curves, colors, and some minor sharpening.

Beautyful work! I surely reconsider to buy the new version of TG. ;D
Awesome!
the planet mastah is in da house ^^
i am still a fanboy when i look at your planet renders Stephen !
Beautiful work Stephen, really like the glow the lighting the clouds :)
Some more pictures, just for fun ;D:

These are all phenomenal. I love the second one, the entire arc of the weather pattern on the left side is simply perfect.
