Jimi Hendrix but that's because I just starting playing guitar again after ages. I listen to all sorts but the old blues stuff including Hendrix is where I always start from. That stuff is pure soul unlike todays music. I've spent years messing with audio software but nothing compares to playing a real instrument or listening to that kind of music. Computers aided music in many ways but also destroyed it. Going back to listen to old music now makes that radically apparent.
Digitally imported radio's "chillout" channel. Seems to sound like the images we all make - most of the time. The better stuff is earlier in the day. The stuff in the evening can sometimes be too "zonal" (aka stuck in the same flavor for a while).
Sigur Rós - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
what does that say matt? is it icelandic?
linkin Park: Shadow of the Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFUbU1WVtxQ)
Yes it is, Will. It translates as "with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly".

That Sigur Rós music sounds cool from the clips I listened to.

good choices mr miley!
I have had the pleasure of seeing roy harper play a couple of times, and hawkwind numerous times(I forget exactly how many!!!;))
efflux
I have seen Roy Harper about 7 times, one of the most amazing performers, 1 man and a guitar can hold a audience's attention for 2 hours. Did you see him when his son was playing with him?
Never had the chance to see hawkwind :( Love to though!

I listen to a little bit of everything, almost, but one my favorite songs are probably Time To Say Goodbye when Andrea Bocelli sings. I usually don't like much music in this genre, but that song is just fantastic.
a combination of:
The Flaming Lips (specifically: Telepathic surgery, Hit Death in the Future Head), Pere Ubu, The Monks, & Glenn Branca.
Tinnitus.
Air - Deck Safari Part One
Tinariwen. Desert nomads doing rock-n-roll via West African guitar + trad. percussion and singing. They rock.

right now, a band called Hurt. They're easily one of my favorite groups. They have good lyrics and music. Some of my favorites from them are "Rapture" "Alone with the Sea" and "Aftermath"

I'm traditionally a rock and roll and metal guy, though I really do like EDM music, probably cause of my past with retro video games. Though lately, I have been absolutely obsessed with Korean culture and subsequently; music.

As little mainstream radios as possible. :P Otherwise than that, pretty much everything - pop, rock, chillout, 'quality' pop. But it gotta has that elusive "something". Here you go:

Rock and Symphonic metal when driving, Ambient when working at the computer.
Since I'm on old fart it's still Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis etc.
I am very open about music. If I like a song I do not care who plays it and what style it is. I will listen it.
Otherwise I am an Opeth fan. 8)

Oooh, I loved them! Winamp had the best ones! And you could even create your custom ones with a little bit of programming knowledge! :)
Oh hell yes. I remember hooking up a mic to my PC so all sound in the room caused a visualisation to kick in. Ahhh... so easily pleased with my visualisations and lava lamp. And vodka. Student times ftw!

Put on an old Al Stewart album this afternoon and while listening to Flying Sorcery on a whim googled "Amy Johnson." Fascinating bit of aviation history, the guy did his homework. Of all his songs (that I'm familiar with) this is one of my favorites, but never knew the story behind it.

Talking Heads, English Beat, Santana, Jack White, John Williams(the guitarist), and anyone who plays the Bach cello suites.
But if world politics is upsetting you, then go with Nine Inch Nails :-X
Listening to Tom Petty. I love the Wildflowers album because it's "concert ready" -- no studio fades and precious little embellishment. And talk about restrained drummers!
