Title: Bush Group
Post by: moodflow on January 26, 2008, 01:15:29 AM
Hi All,

Here are the bushes I used in the image seen in this post:  http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=3253.0

You'll need to reset the "sit on terrain" and "planet" connections, but the foliage colors and variation should be intact.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

The file is 64 MB or so, so if anyone wants to download and host it, feel free to do so (as I have it sitting on my server for now).

Thanks for sharing, Moodflow - I'll put these up on Ashundar and credit them to you tomorrow :).

Many thanks Old Blaggard.

@Dhaval:  yes, these are from Dryad.  I opened them with poseray, then saved them with poseray (nothing else was done to them), then opened in TG2 as .obj file, then saved as .tgo.  Then I tweaked the shaders, and resaved as .tgo for each.

Then I built a distribution mask, and created the group.  The mask (which is a power fractal) can be randomized.  Or an image map can be used for more control.

Question,

If you don't have poseray could you open and save them in Blender if some one where doing this for them selves? Was it just a format conversion you did in poseray and if so what format where the models in when you saved them in Dryad before conversion to .obj files?

Regards to you.

Hi Cyber-Angel,

The files start out as .obj files from Dryad, and stay .obj until I save them as .tgo in TG2.   8)

The ONLY reason I use Poseray is so the .obj files play better with TG2.  Poseray seems to bring .obj (or even other 3d format) files to a stable level.

Thank you Moodflow; I've downloaded the group from Ashundar and are now applying them to a scene ...I really appreciate this!

Sounds great.

I want to create another more diversified "group" and upload that.  It would be very nice to be able to populate a group itself as an object.

If you have a 3D program that handles .obj file you should able to do that. Just import them into one drawing or project and place them how you like then export that file out as a .obj or .3ds and wash it through PoseRay to correct any material issues and you should be good.

Be aware though that until TG2 can place objects at the same angle as the slope, you may have floating bushes on steep terrain.

I really like the bushes they take image textures for the leaves very nicely. :)

Yea, this is what I was considering doing.  I know about the slope issue, and the only way around it is to make the base of the "object" as small as possible.

Moodflow, in a few days I'll have a new render which will include two populations of your plants. They look pretty good so far in contrast with the terrain surfaces of the scene.
