Title: Creating screen-saver 22" - Licence?
Post by: Hyugens on August 17, 2008, 06:54:31 PM
Hi there,

I just started working with Terragen.
Now I want to create some Screensaver for personal use (me and propably some friends, but not commercial)

the problem is, that the unregistered version doesn´t support resoultions above 1280x960 pixel .

Do i really have to buy a commercial licence for 99$ , just to create some screensavers , which are suitable to my screen?

Err I would have thought "nope" actually... if you want higher resolutions above 1280x960 then your easiest/cheapest solution will be to render two or more images rotating the camera each time so you end up with a higher resolution image when they are tiled together. Aim for about a 20% overlap between your images. Cant remember much about oldskool terragen but there may be other advantages to buying the licensed version, I know higher resolution terrains is one, better AA maybe too ? and of course cheaper upgrade to TG2!

In order to render at higher resolution without using "tricks", yes you need to register. The primary registration advantages are:
- Higher resolution rendering
- Higher resolution terrain generation and loading
- Better antialiasing methods
- Commercial use is allowed (you can make money off of your creations)
