Title: Edge of the Tundra
Post by: surrealdan on March 13, 2018, 04:16:31 PM
New scene with the mountain from WM with extra detail from the erode v3 node, instanced trees from speedtree. Might of cranked the detail setting too high and took about 24 hours to finish rendering.  :o

A good render is a good render...and that's a great image.

First reaction on opening the image . . . looks real. Beautiful rendering. Love the oblique lighting, esp. throwing the foreground into shadow. Nice.

Hey thanks! I wanted to give it that crisp cold feeling with the lighting, worked out :)

Nice view. Realism is there, keep them coming!

Great render. I really like the subtleness, and the left part with the dark edge and tree. Too bad that it's taking so long and I wonder why. What detail settings did you use? For this size and subject a few hours would be most on a reasonably fast machine.

Excellent work man. Lovely render well worth the time and CPU power. I'd only make the shore a bit darker because water would naturally "take away" the low laying snow.

The long render time may of course be caused either by a very low RAM or weak CPU. If not, look into the scene - if your water layer runs all the way underneath the terrain (you did not mask it out beforehand) TG will compute the water coverage regardless of whether it's underneath the terrain or not. Another thing to consider - what do you use for the snow texture?

I might be wrong, but you might want to check if you did not check the "Raytrace everything" box. Your image looks very clean, crisp and sharp so maybe you have overdone with the quality a bit. ;)

Beautiful scene! re: the render time...is that a lake object? Maybe replacing it with a Plane with a Power Fractal for the waves displacement and colour will reduce render time. Surprised Dune didn't suggest that.

I didn't because that wouldn't do much about render time. Masking does!

Have to look into the mask from the water to terrain, didnt know about that. Not sure ray trace all was on. I cranked the detail level to 3, but I think was just a heavy scene and 8 core 3.5ghz cpu what contributed

Detail was at 3? As in 3.0, not 0.3?? That is crazy-high. I would not suggest ever going above 1, and in fact 0.7 or 0.8 are usually maximums in all my renders, and what I recommend to others for final quality.
