Title: Black Hole "oh yeah 00256"
Post by: Ariel DK on March 17, 2019, 11:42:56 AM
I decided make some test about this...
Is not the result i expected, but is ok for a "one night" work:
two stretched spheres with very reflectives glass shaders cutting a dark planet with a tiny atmosphere
one render to illustrate the concept and test purposes, and another at planetary scale
advices are highly welcome  :D

I have replaced the spheres, by a torus ring ...
here is a test render in little scale. i gonna try to combine both effects at planetary scale tomorrow...

Very cool experiment. Like it!

The last one comes close to what I remember from "Interstellar".
Cool!

Thanks to all! even more closer...
Two objects (dark sphere and glass torus) with a few Km size
For some reason i cant get the torus reflecting a planetary scale cloud disc
i gonna try to attach the gathered scene tomorrow, to see if someone knows what is happening...

Edit: this should be posted here?

As i wrote in Discussion section, find myself limited by the default curvature of clouds following the planet
but i can still making big "holes" with an accretion disc less than 100k km of diameter, before the curvature cause problems.
for planetary size black holes, i gonna need to find a way to sort this problem...
Meanwhile, i'm still playing around  ::)

The final version is pretty amazing, well done! I like the post work for the most part, the smudges in particular are very effective. There seems to be an awful lot of lint/hair, though. Is that due to some increased static or something? I don't see this much hair on real windows on Earth... ;)

Thanks to all!

@Oshyan I guess i can give me some freedom here:
The closest black hole is 6000 light years from Earth, so you need to imagine a generational spaceship as the only way to get there
in that case, the hair accumulation in the windows doesn't look a bad idea after all...
even if i put a drawn heart form in the glass, or the Coldplay symbol, still gonna be realistic... 8)

Oh, what a great final! Congrats! :)

...and i must smile a bit since I saw that we in this forum seem to find and use similar and same sources for models... I am quite sure I know the station's model... Is it the Zenith station by KuhnIndustries?

Thx! you're right, i've downloaded this model a few years ago, and i had forgotten what the source was
i gonna add the artist source in the description of the image, thanks again!

Great work, love it when people break the rules and make something new and original :)

Yepp! it's exactly that model from Turbosquid ;D
Unfortunately it will be destroyed in my film  :'(

Funny how often we meet similar or the same models again and again ;D ;D
