Title: Rainforest tree obj
Post by: WAS on June 30, 2018, 08:34:38 PM
Actually a pretty nice rain forest tree it looks like.

Investigating this model, it is very strange, and in parts.

Thanks a lot for the link. What a tree!! I don't know if the tree parts can be put together into one file in Poseray. However it has to be scaled down to 1% of its original size to match TG's scale. There are no textures, so you'll have to use your own. I used an image map shader for the bark, because I needed a ratio of 1:0.25 to avoid stretching.
And I used two versions of my own leaves textures of this thread:

Wow it looks great in TG! I imagine (hopefully) you're using the same locations for the objs?

there is a MAPS rar with the textures for leaves....2 dllds
However the obj rar does not have the tree trunk mesh, only leaves...does Poseray open Max?

I thought the object came in parts, vegetation, and trunk/tree?

I totally missed the MAPS rar ::). However I prefer my own textures.

I don't think, that Poseray opens Maxfiles.

Actually the trunk is there. It's the TREE.obj file inside the OBJ.rar.

That's right. The trunk and the branches as one object, the twigs and two sets of foliage.

Ah....I see! Evidently my first extraction attempt was not right. Trying it again now. Taking awhile to merge obj in Poseray....

Merged it in poseray, left out the twigs.....scale at 0.1 on left tree, scale 0.2 right tree. right tree, different bark texture. I will try a pop render and see if leaving twigs out helped render time. This took 7 minutes at 0.6MPD and 0.6AA

Yes, the twigs are quite heavy!

Population render object without twigs     Default single leaf texture
Added my autumn colors clip and soft shadows @ 2/18 Render time 20 minutes , settings as before
Not Hanne's render quality, but definitely midwest USA early fall look

Yeah they look good.

They almost fit the preview too if you used a surface layer on Y to push it towards the base of the tree vegetation.
