I wish you had made it longer. There are some great detail in both planets that the camera passes through too quickly.

that was just a early version

i made it longer in the next version & rebuilt the camera motion path, it goes a bit farther between the planets
its rendering the sequence right now

I really like the scene... it is epic and quite frightening
But the camera move makes it feel very small, as well as quite "generated"
I don't think animating a camera through the scene like this is helping it at all-
May I suggest considering a more physical approach. Image the camera is actually attached to something tangible, like a ship / drone / satellite...
What would you see?
By avoiding "impossible" camera moves, the audience is more willing to accept the situation as reality.
Once again, I must say: This scene is awesome and epic!

These planets are roughly the same size and colliding fairly slowly (in terms of planet speed) correct? If so sorry to burst everyone's bubble but, if planets of roughly equal size just kind of drift into each other they would not simply 'smack' into each other. Their electromagnetic fields would tear them apart, which would result in a new 'composite' planet forming. But at such unstable stages in their development the resulting planet would be unknown to be 'composite.' But wait! In the eyes of physics your planets can still be like that! If the planets have either, low density, non-iron, or forming planetary cores. Sorry for the long, confusing, possibly unneeded post, but, I guess what I'm trying to say is, add tidal bulging to the planets and make them more active according to that. I'm sure nobody would notice or even thought of that but, for the sake of realism you might want to look into that. Also it's still a little short, other than that great render.

i thought one planet was smaller than the other, but in fact they nearly the same size.

i guess we need a node for planet collision deformations, maybe we'll see that in TG3
:D ;)

What? What are you smoking Catfish? Electromagnetic fields? Are planets running on electric power? :P
Planets - earth like at least - have magnetic fields.
The only thing that would rip them apart would be collision between them.
The tidal forces would be explaining lots of vulcanic activity which is illustrated quite well in the movie clip and would not have time to do more due to the imminent crash. I do believe though, that it would be a little more messy than it is now... big chunks of crust would fly between the planets. The space between them would be a very violent place.

You might wanna recheck your high-school physics before making such recommendations on forums. Some people might believe you and not only you're not helping but you're actually spread misinformation which is in itself a bad thing.

reality? Based on what? theory? Who has seen a planet collied to know what would happen or what it would really look like? I say man, your all crazy (in a good way)! Just make it look good. Fiction may not be stranger than reality, but its often more fun. :P Good job zaai999, Im inspired.
