Terragen Discussion / Re: Planet atmosphere
Last post by purrdrone - Today at 11:18:03 PM
Quote from: Victorpks on May 20, 2023, 01:10:41 AMGood morning,
I'm trying to recreate the earth on terragen, but there are several effects that I can't do it.
I have already used the angle from a reference vector setup to put my city map in the shaded area.
But I can't create the atmosphere in the shadow part. I saw someone post this result on the forum but I can't reproduce it.
https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,23355.0.html Melon Sandbox
I tried to create two atmospheres. One for the light side and a green one for the shadow side but I can't mix them together with a mask. Can you help me recreate this effect please?
The second test I would like to do is to be able to create areas filled with aurora, but none of my tests have succeeded.
Thanks in advance
Hi! To recreate the shaded atmosphere effect in Terragen, don't use two atmospheres—Terragen doesn't blend them well. Instead, try using one atmosphere with a custom light shader or tweak the haze/glow settings with a soft mask based on light angle. For auroras, use a cloud layer (preferably high-altitude) with a fractal shader and glow enabled—animate or distort the fractal to mimic aurora motion. Hope this helps!

Belt is three rock populations with subdivision level 3, shatter planes 7, power fractals, set on disk. Resolution of cloud layer is 43200x21600.

Timeless, beautiful!

How did you achieve the asteroid belt?
Did you create them in Terragen?

Which resolution have your maps which you did use in your earth?

Terragen Animation / Cyan Eyed Biomes | Part 2 - a ...
Last post by Njen - June 14, 2025, 03:39:14 AM
OK, here we go, part two of my biomes series! Sit back, relax and take a moment to explore the rich world of Cyan Eyed (award winning animated short film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2h1Mtcn9VQ) with the second in a series of breath taking flythroughs of various landscapes that feature the beauty of a world that seemingly goes on forever. Clouds drift and evolve, ley lines brim with energy, water laps at the shores, birds meander about, even the sun moves through the sky.

If you can, please watch to the end and even click through the end card as it really helps me with the Youtube algorithm.

This fully 3D environment was created and rendered in Terragen, with all three minutes of this single continuous shot taking over 5 months to render on just two computers (I never like my computers idle).

Enjoy!

Make sure to watch this in its full glory on Youtube, if you play it through this forum, you may be auto given a low quality 360p version.
