My latest render took 30hrs 57mins (PP auto leveled + slight curve adjustment)
Here is the link to the file, i have included a tgd with objects "pine trees free from xfrogs, and ketch" and a version with only trees. and for anyone who just likes the clouds there is a tgc clip of the clouds+atmosphere zip file 13Kb

the ketch is by Singing Bridge from www.turbosquid.com (http://www.turbosquid.com)
Very nice! Someone over at Ashundar was working on making wakes a while ago, and he got pretty far with it. I like the trees. How large was your population?
a few 100000 trees i think, size was about 15000x15000
That picture was worth every second of the 30 hours - it is amazing. A wake would be a nice finishing touch...
Gday
Try this link to Ashundar for wake - thanks to Ogre

The message at the top of page has faulty links but go down the page and you will find a link that works.
Mike
thanks for the comments... and the linky i will check that wake idea out....
ok here is what i've got so far following what Ogre had done. will post updates once i do a better wake mask. and add foam to them...
Now that looks good! I can't wait to see the finished product...
Nice, how did you get the wake like that?
Regards,
Will
Looks good but It appears you may need to lean the wakes in the direction away from the center. It seems thy are leaning to the center.
Here is the inital tgd file

Here is a link to the nautilus model http://www.ashundar.com/list.php?c=models (http://www.ashundar.com/list.php?c=models)
I haven't posted the wreck model. That was acquired at www.planit3d.com (http://www.planit3d.com)
yeah I haven't applied the twist shear shader yet.. the mask itself I did in paintshop pro.. i will include the masks in the final render
@king...very nice work!
Out of curiosity...what are your machine specs?
31hrs for an 800X450 gives me about 41 hrs for an 800x600 with less than a third water.....so, the 70 hrs for my 800x600 iceberg render on my "slow" 2.2ghz P4 sounds reasonable then.
P4 2.8ghz northwood 1gb ram..
high cloud samples + atmosphere really does give a render time hit.. also having a lot of vegetation seems to bog my pc down so its all a combo i really need another 512 or a 1gb ram :(.... got a linky to your renders you've done? out of interest
@king;

Like I said...I've pretty much given up on serious TG2 renders until I see some optimization.
Ok, here is the final render 22hrs in the making, the next version of my wake will improve the foam density and will be a more complex texture.
the zip file contains 2 versions of the wake textures + tgd file the 3dmodel is downloaded free from www.gunpoint-3d.com and converted into obj format in wings3d

nice.

That's great! Wonderful job! You've got a very detailed and believable sense of realism.
It looks like the angle of the wake varies (gets smaller towards the back). A wake always has an angle of about 39 degrees.

How do you measure and verify something like that? Thanks for the randomly useful information...
I remembered it from when I was playing with water scene's in 3DS. There's been studies about that that. Verifying it wouldn't be too hard at an aquatics lab (where they test ship models etc). I do remember seeing alot of discussion involving a duck's wake so searching on that should yield some results.

i used this as reference for my mask
Nice, thats a intresting way to diagram a wake.

This could also be adapted to do some nice coastal renders with wave refraction/ diffraction
here's some linky's.

All of this stuff would be useful in a 'Water Physics' plugin...
I thought i had posted this image but i forgot so here it is, it would make a decent mark too.

after much rendering here it is 1.2mb so it might take a while to load about 50-60hrs render 6 (600x600) squares
http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~rawjdmbj/terragen/pano2.html enjoy.
i moved the position of the ketch, and added in my wake texture after figuring out how to move textures around:D:D
Nice job. Unfortunately I can't really see the wake very well, and the water is slightly randomized in each section.
nice one... That shore looks an awful lot like your sailing into Queenstown :-)
Queenstown New Zealand?... would be great to do some renders of that type of landscape
just thought this would be interesting to post, it is the stitched image that the pano is made from 2400x1200
Nice job. This looks really realistic - when I first saw that I thought "those are cool clouds, I wonder where he took that photo?"

Same here - I saw 'Queenstown New Zealand?...' briefly looked at the picture and immidiately thought 'photo'.
the problems with the mis matched water is explained here http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=908.0 looks like you need to make the pano in 1 go without closing tg2 which i did once.
heres the tgd too
