The full Terragen 3 product line will be released in August, 2013. You may commence your impatient pacing, finger tapping, or whatever it is you do to pass the time. :D
Or, better yet, get in on the pre-purchase option coming up this Wednesday, the 17th! Due to significant demand, we'll begin selling Terragen 3 Professional, with immediate access to a beta version, on that date. Those of you upgrading from Terragen 2 will be able to purchase starting then as well.
Purchases will be at the final retail prices and will of course entitle you to the finished product upon its release, along with all "point release" updates of the 3.x line to follow, just as it was with 2.x. Between the pre-release date and the final, pre-purchasers will receive ongoing beta updates and have a chance to give feedback as we finish up our work on the product.
Update: Pre-release is live!

Update 2: Upgraders from TG2 can now purchase!
Just visit the page above and click the upgrade link at top or scroll down for TG2->TG3 upgrade options.
Update 3:
We're extending the pre-release period for Terragen 3 and have just released a new version which is a recommended update for all pre-release users. Unfortunately we've become aware of a few last minute bugs and we're working on them to ensure a solid release, so the final launch will be slightly delayed. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
The good news is that all product options are now available for pre-purchase, including upgrades. You now can buy Terragen 3 Creative or Professional, with or without animation, as well as upgrade from any previous version of Terragen. Educational discounts are also now available.
If you are an existing customer who will be upgrading, you should be receiving registration information for our new online store very soon. When you log in with your account information, you should see appropriate upgrade products in the store, with correct pricing based on your previous purchase. If you feel there's an error or you receive multiple registration emails, just contact us at support@planetside.co.uk and we'll sort it out.

With the temperatures in the UK, that will be an ice cold beer!!
Well, they're based in San Fran. It's not even noon where I am (Alberta, CA). If they get it out by the end of the day, it'll be around midnight for you.

Sorry, I think it must just be Oshyan is San Fran, then. I knew I read it somewhere. Who knows which time zone they are going by?
Not sure, but we can hope for UK and wait for SanFrancisco. ;D
Oshyan is a West coaster. In the past all files have come from the U.K.
I have to laugh I never seen so many people "Online" all day (guests and members) Everyone is hovering waiting for the link to appear, myself included :P

Hi everyone, the full-price pre-purchase is now available on our site!
http://planetside.co.uk/buy/buy-terragen-3 (http://planetside.co.uk/buy/buy-terragen-3)
Unfortunately we've had to delay the upgrade pre-purchases a couple of days while we work out a way to automatically check upgrade eligibility (it would be a ton of manual work otherwise). Very sorry about the delay and we really appreciate your patience. We're working as fast as we can to get this set up!
P.S. Our business is still technically based out of the UK, but Matt and I are in California, Pacific Time. It's early afternoon for us, a perfect time for a pre-release launch. ;)
- Oshyan
Thank god I've cancelled my order on the pre-release. Was meant to order on the upgrade one.
Was about to spend over $500!!
Good to hear, Oshyan. I'm ready to buy the upgrade. Cash is sizzling. :)
Great news indeed. On question, will per-purchase work the way it did with TG2, that is to say you could use it right away and the convert it to the release version when available?
Regards to you.
Cyber-Angel
Yes C-A, as described on the pre-release page: http://planetside.co.uk/buy/buy-terragen-3
"Terragen 3 is currently available for purchase as a pre-release beta. When you purchase, you will gain early access to beta versions of Terragen 3 which will be updated on an ongoing basis up to and including the final public release. You will also be entitled to standard Terragen 3 updates through the entire 3.x series."
- Oshyan
Any news on being able to update?
All I want to do is give them my money, but I can't yet!
Oshyan, what's up? We're drowning out here...well, it's not that bad. But, some news would help.
Would sending in our old TG2 email/key file help? I still have mine.
Keep it in your pants boys...............let the people do it right the first time. There will be less problems for them and us. :P
Thanks for your patience everyone. As we said, it would take us a couple days to put together what we needed. But "phase 1" is all sorted out now (by which I mean we'll have a brand-new shopping system in the near future, but for now it's the same-old, hehe). So go for it guys!

Nope. Not there yet. Guess they don't have ALL the bugs out. I have no problem paying the $199 now if they credit me the $50 later, although I'd like confirmation on that first.
The special workstation-only upgrade at $149 isn't available during the pre-release period. Unfortunately it will not be possible to downgrade you to the $149 special later. If you would like to buy the special workstation-only upgrade at $149 then please wait until final release day. Remember that there are additional benefits to buying the full $199 upgrade - it allows you to render on additional computers, not just one at a time. The exact number of render licenses depends on which edition you are buying. Terragen 3 Professional gives you 3 additional render licenses so you can render on up to 4 computers at a time, and Terragen 3 Professional with Animation gives you 5 additional render licenses so you can render on up to 6 computers at a time.
Matt
Thanks Matt and Oshyan. It's tempting to get the full upgrade, though this might mean getting a mini-rack of five servers...hmmm. Might be useful for other rendering too. Dang! ;D
Paid and awaiting my upgrade pre-release :)

Matt
How easy is this to setup? And how much could I expect a minimal, but effective, system in place to cost? Would these be desktops or a server bank like rcallicotte mentioned?
Setting up a mini "render farm" is not too difficult. You don't have to use special hardware, it could even be old(er) machines that you have lying around. As long as they're not really slow they can contribute to rendering of an animation, or even a high resolution still image that you split up. It can also be useful just for rendering on one machine while you continue working out details of a scene on another. For example if you need to test something with a render, save a TGD to a shared network drive, load it on the other machine and start rendering, then you can continue tweaking on the scene file if desired (or another scene) and not slow down your workflow.
For managing several computers with TG rendering, there are a number of 3rd party tools (render managers) you can use, some are free, some commercia. See our Resources page: http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Terragen_Resource_List

So, no pre-purchase upgrade from TG2 with Animation to TG3 with Animation. - Lifted up to be put back down!
No, you've misunderstood. The upgrade from TG2 with Animation to TG3 with Animation is the same price as the upgrade from TG2 without Animation to TG3 without Animation ($199 in both cases), so we just put them into a single purchase option and we figure out what upgrade you should get when we verify the purchase on our end. I.e. we look at your purchase history and if you have TG2 with Animation, you get TG3 Professional with Animation, or if you didn't have animation, you get the non-animation version of TG3 Pro. The only TG2 to TG3 upgrade we're not offering right now is the *limited-time discounted* upgrade offer of $149 which is for *both* animation and non-animation upgrades, the only difference being that it has *no* render nodes in either case, which is why it's cheaper.
Please see our pricing page, it may help explain: http://planetside.co.uk/buy/tg3-price-list (http://planetside.co.uk/buy/tg3-price-list)

thanks Oshyan, but the original announcement at the start of this thread didn't make that clear.
This seems rather.... bizarre? You have a way to take one's money for purchase..... a way to tell if a person is eligible to upgrade, but you don't have a way to do the $149 upgrade. Only thing I can think of is you don't have a way to limit the render nodes to 1?
Guess I'll have to wait since I only have one computer. :(
I received my license key. 8) Is there a special thread for pre-release feedback, problems and questions?
How's this for a good rack to organize our drives for the extra render nodes? Not trying to derail this thread, so Planetside - feel free to move this, if I am out of order. Seems like some good deals. Now all I need are some SATA dirves.

Jaf, it's not a technical issue. The $149 upgrade is a special price, it's simply not available during the pre-release period, just like a sale price is not always available. We decided to have a pre-release because we were getting so much interest in trying TG3 early, but if you can't pay the $199 price (or you just don't need the render nodes), the final release is just a couple weeks away. We certainly appreciate your patience.
- Oshyan
Oh, I can wait -- I don't have a choice. I guess it's a way to take advantage of those who only want/need one node -- maybe they will give us the extra $50 because they don't want to wait.

Come on dude. That's a bit harsh. Planetside hasn't kidnapped your kids and presumably you have some impulse control. ;-)
I think you underestimate how time consuming it is configuring the multitude of preorder possibilities in the online store when they are driving towards release. I would suggest you give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think I'm underestimating anything. They have an upgrade option for tg3 with extra nodes, so they have a list of who's eligible. They've already set the pricing. As Oshyan said, it's not a technical problem. It doesn't take a week to add the last upgrade option.
That said, I still put Planetside at the top of my list for it product, support, and forums. It just hit me the wrong way when I saw the statement that the $149 special wouldn't be available but I could spend $50 more to get it "right away". :)
^^ Yeah, I get what your saying. But technically we weren't supposed to have full access until the end of the month. So I am not getting bothered by any release issues until then.
The BIG promise is an official release at the end of the month. Any hiccups before then, I would think is normal?.. For a product roll out I mean.
I am not buying the early release anyway. I don't have the technical joy that so many others here have. Im going to just sit back until the final release version. ;D
I am organizing the library portion, for me this is first on my list. One question, as updates come in will the library contents and associated loaded/generated images carry over? As you know this takes many hours to set up, but so worth the time to do it, I just hope this is a one time deal
Hi Danny,
Yes, we will do everything we can to ensure your library doesn't need to be set up again for future changes.

Jo
I wish I could be all ga-ga like everyone else here over the release of TG3 but I just can't. I've spent years, toil and tears and enough of my $$$ and accomplished close to nothing. Yes, it's just me, but TG2 is still at the deep end of the pool of my understanding. I see no reason for me to spend more $$$ to accomplish less than I already have.
I will say that The Planetside folks have done an extraordinary feat at giving us all a top-notch terrain (and everything else!) rendering program with TG2. I'm sure 3 will be no less impressive. I thank you all for your hard work and support over the many years I've been with you.
But I must now bid adieu. Thank you again.

Hi Rich,
I'm sorry to hear that, but thanks for the kind words about the hard work and support, and thanks for supporting us during that time. Let me say this. Terragen is only going to get easier and more fun to use in future. We have a roadmap for Terragen that I think will open up Terragen to many more people and make the whole process of environment creation more direct and intuitive, as well as having a faster render engine. It will get back to the heart of what Terragen's purpose is, what its specialty is. With Terragen 3.0 we concentrated on adding features and addressing various shortcomings with Terragen 2, to make a much more rounded and useful product, and I believe many of these features make it easier to use as well. Future versions of Terragen will build on that base, but will cut through the workflow and make you think less about the process and just create more. Even Terragen 3.1 will have some new goodies that we haven't really spoken much about yet. I hope you'll drop in from time to time and keep on eye on what we're doing because it's going to be amazing :)
Matt
Ok, I've not been as regular in here as I used to be so the email announcing Terragen 3 was a complete surprise. When I looked at the overview and saw the extended range of versions with Professional aimed at production studios I got a little worried. Then I found the upgrade pricing ;D :-*
The addition of the spherical camera makes upgrading a no brainer, the software that i was considering buying to simplify the process of converting six images to one covers half the upgrade price and I get all the other features as well. I use the additional render nodes so no need to wait :) other than for my upgrade key ;)
A huge thumbs up to all at Planetside for keeping the upgrade pricing affordable.

Thks Jo thats great news, I hope you guys are able have this transfer. The library among all other updates are truly amazing IMHO. When you purchase the pre-purchase how do make sure that the license is in you name? Is it the name of the card holder or can it be different form that of the card holder?
Regards to you.
Cyber-Angel
If you're paying through WorldPay, the key file is encoded with the "user name" that you enter in the form on our website, before you go on to the WorldPay pages. However, if you pay through PayPal you can't do that, but they have a place where you can add instructions for us. You could provide an alternative name there.
In any case, you can email us directly if you want anything changed about your order.
Matt

Yeah after logging in I can only see the $199 upgrade price, no $149. Maybe this option isn't available yet?
I'm confused, I received an e-mail titled "New user Details" stating the following:
"Hello, You have been added as a User to Planetside Software by an Administrator.
This email contains your username and password to log in to http://planetside.co.uk/"
After logging in I see no options for me to upgrade my Terragen 2 with Animation to version 3 pro. In fact I don't see any of my previous purchases or registered software even listed on the site. What's up? Is there another e-mail coming? It should be easier to upgrade! :(
Thanks just updated my prerelease to tg3..04, by loading the prelease, press help, look for updates.

I think we realize that. However, some of us got emails that gave the impression we could purchase the $149 update (especially when Oshyan wrote on the previous page of this thread: "
The good news is that all product options are now available for pre-purchase, including upgrades (and the discounted $149 upgrade)."What I'm saying is, that option was not there for me. I did contact support as Oshyan asked us to do if we had problems.
I'm with Jaf. Only I didn't get the email. Not need to tiff about whether we should wait or not. We're waiting. Just not clearly understanding what is what. Anyway, it could be more organized.
Looks like right now I can buy it for $699 if I want the largest package with the most nodes. But, an upgrade is all I need. And I am waiting. Roger?
This is not the first bumpy release. Just be patient. Oshyan has enough fires to put out. This is a golden nugget of a company that has Hollywood's attention. Don't flame out too badly and type stuff you may regret.

Hey! I just heard from Oshyan and can do the upgrade. Something in my account got mixed up, when I changed email providers last year. But, I'm golden!!
Thanks to Planetside for paying attention to their customer base!
The $149 upgrades had a problem last night but should be available now for those who are eligible (all TG2 purchasers basically). Let us know if you're still having problems! And thank you for your patience and understanding. I was up a bit late last night. ;)
Edit: Also, just to be clear, this account will not show previous purchases at this time, however it will give you access to appropriate upgrade options based on those past purchases, provided things are setup correctly in your account. Anyone who had multiple purchases or changed email addresses over the years may need us to make a minor adjustment to their account. Just contact us at the support address and we'll get it handled in no time.

Oshyan, you said in an earlier notice that us that have the latest TG2 would be getting an email that the $149.00 upgrade (not the pre-load) for TG3 Pro would be available for download. Am I understanding this correctly?
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. The $149 upgrade price is available now, as part of the extended pre-release. You should have received an email with account info. If not, it may have gone to an old email address.

Old email accounts could be the hang up. Some of us have lurked around since the early days. I have to report that mine worked seamlessly. So in an effort to be positive, should people update their contact info, or ask for support?
If you have access to your account, you can update your contact details. If you don't, just email us and we'll take care of it. If you're seeing the wrong prices, likewise just email us.

If you don't receive that email, or you see a problem with your account or the pricing listed in the store, contact us at support@planetside.co.uk with your registration details (email, license name, version purchased) and we'll set you up properly.
I guess I'm not understanding this correctly. Maybe I should go to a different site and order it?
Bob
Did you not receive a registration email? If you do not, you should have. It may have gone to an old email account of yours. Let us know and we'll set you up with an account.
- Oshyan
[EDIT] SORRY -- Forget it. I just read Oshyan's answer below but had already posted this. I jumped to the conclusion that my payment was confirmed because the download links were up in my account. I'll patiently wait for my key file.

Hi Oshyan,
Sorry, I didn't receive a registration email. It is the same one that is listed here at the forum on my profile. I've had this email address for much longer than I've had TG2.
Bob
As was always the case, you need a key file to run the licensed version of Terragen. Nothing has changed in that regard. Your key file has not been sent to you yet, just give is a few minutes and we'll send it to you. In the future the process will be more automated but for now the key file generation still needs manual intervention.
Regarding your error message, first we can't see the image you linked to because it's referencing a file on your local hard drive (you can see it but nobody else can); please use the Attachment function when posting. Second, it sounds like you may have some Terragen environment variables setup which point to your old TG2 install. If so, you should update them to point to TG3.

Bob, your registration was sent to an attglobal.net address that you used to register Terragen Classic. I understand this is no doubt outdated at this point. I will send you your account access info separately to your forum-registered email address.
Everyone else: if you have account issues please contact us directly at support AT planetside.co.uk, it makes it a lot easier to deal with each request properly.
Thanks,
Oshyan

Thanks Oshyan. Sorry for the inconvenience. I guess I will learn with the email I'll be getting as to how long the limited $149.00 cost will be.
Bob
Oshyan, will be downloading tomorrow (Tuesday) evening (using a little strategy on wifey here). How long will the $149.00 price be effective?
Finally, have the winner(s) of the contest been selected yet?
Thank you for your help,
Bob
Winners have not been selected, lots going on, but we intend to deal with that in the next couple days. The entries have been closed however.
We don't have a specific time frame for the $149 price at this point. I think you can count on a couple months though.

Thank you sir for your reply. We've got some whopper expenses coming up and I need to order TG3 carefully. I may hold off a few more days to do it. Appreciate your response here Oshyan.
Bob
No problem Bob, I certainly understand. And I'd be sad if you weren't able to migrate to TG3, I think it's going to take your already excellent work and ratchet it up another notch of quality and realism. The $149 upgrade was made available for exactly this reason.

Oshyan, I just replied to the email you sent. I am unable to login for some odd reason, but please let me know what I need to do, if anything. I followed your instructions.
Will owners of TG 2 deep w/o animation be able to update to TG 3 Creative without any cost? I didn't get this part! If so, how?
Nope. Where did you hear that? Just read up a few lines and you'll see you have two options: $149 and $199.

Ok, I received the password and username to login in the planetside website but can't do it right now. Can't purchase the upgrade, any problem?
That's the message I got when trying to login:
"User accounts are currently only enabled for administration. Customers cannot login to the website at this time."
>:(
Hey, I logged in the site but it is offering upgrade prices as if I was upgrading from Tg Classic!!! I have TG 2 since it's first month of releasing!!! >:(
Want my upgrading prices from TG 2 RIGHT NOW!!!! ;D
My keyfile for TG 2 was sent to this e-mail (alvesilveira@pmba.ba.gov.br), which is not used anymore!!!
People who had multiple purchases sometimes have the wrong one credited to their account. Just email us at support AT planetside.co.uk please and we'll get everything sorted out.

;D Thanx
Just paid for the upgrade fromTG2.5 with animation to TG3 pro with animation, only to find it's still the limited (free) version. :(
What's the point of paying up front for the current TG3 version just to get the same as the free one?
Kevin, when the key file is put into the Terragen folder it should activate Terragen and enable the extra features. If that doesn't work please email support AT planetside.co.uk and we'll troubleshoot from there.

What key file?
You might not have received it yet, but we will email you a license key file.
Matt
Thanks!
Question: I will be downloading Terragen 3 on Friday. I have my Terragen key in an email I got from John McKulsky back in 2006 when I ordered the 'Pre-purchase' of Terragen 2. If I have to place the key file in the same folder as Terragen 3, wouldn't that de-activate my use of Terragen 2?
Terragen 2's licence doesn't copy over. You'd need to get an upgrade key which is basically a complete key for TG3 available to those who already bought TG2.

Thanks PG, with all the techno-babble out there (stuff other than TG3) between banks, television and etc,. my mind is turning to mush.
I have a complex scene that I'd like to to update to Terragen 3 (using the pre-release)- there are quite a few populations that I will have to manually update to the new Population V4 node and it will be a good deal of work.
My question is, would it be safe to update given there will changes in the final version, or should I wait till it comes out?
I just ordered and paid for Terragen 3 64 bit for Windows, selecting the $149.00 option. Upon completion of the transaction and download, I opened the program; and, to my surprise, I read the choices 'But Now' or 'Use Free Version'. Shouldn't I have received the full version? Someone please explain this.
I'm not going to open the program until I hear back from someone on the Planetside staff.
Thanks and sorry for any confusion.
Bob,

and Matts replies. You need a key file. (not that it's mentioned anywhere!)
Hi Bob, check your email. As I mentioned, Terragen 3 requires a key file just like TG2, and naturally they're not the same key file. This clearly needs clarification in our online store so we'll work on that ASAP.

Hi Oshyan,
I just received an email about a new upload of 3.0.05. Where do I go to get it. The email I received my tg3 license key had a link, but it still points to 3.0.04.
It's in the Download area of your online store account. Just login and go to My Account, then under My Orders, click Downloads:
http://planetside.co.uk/component/mijoshop/account/download
- Oshyan
Ah, I see. I was fooled by the date added (29/07/2013). But it downloads the .05 version.
Thanks
3.05.0 downloaded.... you guys are up early! (or is it late?)
My orders/downloads are empty. Is that because I bought TG3 before the new store existed?
Yes, the previous orders have not been added to the store yet. However we will add them in the near future. In the meantime you should continue to receive update notifications through the application which you can download on the dedicated update pages.
- Oshyan
OK, thanks.
Hi Oshyan,
Just got the Terragen 3 with the full load. Looks great and will try this weekend to learn all about it.
Hello,
Just ordered the upgrade to TG3 and was just wondering how long it takes to process before I can download and start using it?
Thanks
Can anyone else tell me how it took after they'd paid before they received their key? Everytime I've ordered software online previously i've always received the key\licence within minutes to an hour.
Keys are currently generated manually, though we intend to automate it in the future (it will take some custom coding to do so as we use our own key system). We try to process keys every day but we don't always work the weekends. I have some updates to the language of the store and confirmation emails that will include some mention of the processing time.
Thanks for your patience.
- Oshyan
Yeah I think i'm used to the automatic systems where keys are sent out as soon as the order is received.
If it's a manual process thanks for sending it out on a Sunday Oshyan.
Are we closing in on final release? :)
Never mind. Just saw the post in the T3 page.
Congratulations to the winners of the free soft. Not me though... Poop :'(.
Help,
I'm an old customer of Terragen but i don't manage to enter in the Terragen store by Login - http://planetside.co.uk/store-login.
I receive a reply of password or e.mail error. My new email is claudio.vincenzoatgmaildotcom.
How can i enter in this store? If i enter my password for Planetside this gets error. By mail i've not received nothing about this issue so far.
Thanks.
Claudio
