Title: I'm about to purchase TG2 w/ animation and I had a question
Post by: warnerbrown on June 11, 2010, 09:29:22 PM
I'm getting a new computer in a month, can TG2 be installed on more than one? so when I switchover I can just install it on the new computer?
Just wanted to verify before I buy, thanks and keep up the great work guys.

Warner,

The license can be used on 5 separate machines I believe.

It's a pretty lax license, as the Planetside folks are pretty understanding of those situations. I've changed computer 2-3 times and havn't needed to contact them for new licenses etc none of that bs.

Basically a license is for one USER.  So as long as the program is only currently being used by one person on one computer at a given time.  What they don't want is someone buying it, installing it on like 4 computers, and having 4 different people running it and using it etc.

Also animation comes with 5 "render nodes", which means you can install it on 5 other machines and have them all running at the same time, as long as the other 5 are only being used as render machines and not for development of new scenes.

But yes, basically you're good to go with upgrades, you just install on new machine, plop your license in and your good to go.  Planetside is more then happy to see people get computer upgrades and enjoy faster render times.

Awesome, I appreciate the responses guys. I'm buying it now, pretty excited!

Also, Do any of you know if there is a benefit to downgrading from windows 7 to winXP? I'm thinking it would be better as it takes up half the ram.

See if Windows 7 is 64 bit. Going back to 32 bit XP may not be a better option. Also, Windows 7 can be trimmed down quite a bit if necessary. I have had better memory use on my P4 HT system since upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit.

I just bought this for $500. It comes w/ Vista (64bit) which I despise as it takes up considerable partition space. Maybe my best bet is to go for winXP 64 bit?

I picked up a new copy of Windows 7 at Amazon.com for $155.00.  The upgrade from Vista is about $100.00.  Windows 7 comes with 32 and 64 bit versions.
