Title: World Creator steps up...
Post by: bobbystahr on June 20, 2018, 08:39:21 AM
....and gives you a Speed Tree library upon purchase. Must be nice to have that kind of funding where you can license that eh?
Just looking at their vid and it's gonna give Vue a run for it's money but TGers will likely stay put....quite a pricey looking program although I've not checked that yet. If I've posted this in the wrong spot please move it to it's correct spot.

Good God  :o

This looks pretty awesome. I can imagine it being super useful in tandem with TG. I'm keen to try out the new-ish Houdini terrain tools soon for similar purposes. World Creator looks slick though.

Whoa there is a lot of changes going on lately.

I've got WC Pro RC14 -- bought it at version 12 ($289 USD).  It's a perpetual license with 1 year maintenance with a 1 year maintenance renewal for $149 after that.

To get the real time editing, you need a strong graphics card.  You can do things in minutes with WC that took hours in World Machine.

I really need to get into it -- been so busy trying to improve my modeling skills in Lightwave.

It will ramp up the heat in your computer though, so you have to plan for that (my graphics card will go from 34c to 65c in a few seconds.)

Wonder how the RT editing would work on my RX 480. It's the 8GB edition.

Not sure.... they really need a demo so one can judge the resource loading on the system -- memory/cpu/gpu.

What the hell, I bought the beta. Looks fascinating. Between this, Gaea and Terragen you really should have absolutely everything you need.

My work box has 4 Titan X's in it, so this should scream.
I'll give this program a whirl today if time allows.

QuoteMy work box has 4 Titan X's in it,

I worked at a studio that had a bunch of machines with that config around to run Octane - kept the studio nice and toasty during winter  :)

Does the petrol generator outside make a racket too?  :D

We're using Octane as well. It's GPU city.
Liquid cooling keeps them from getting surly.
This World Creator software should prove really interesting.
Do a bunch of crazy shit super fast and bring into TG for the secret sauce, plus of course the huge TG advantage of a procedural planet, which no one else can touch.

What a time to be alive

Liquid cooling and rendering? Don't hear about that too often. Water cooling has a super slow thermal gradient. It doesn't quickly adjust to temp spikes, but slowly, as it's a radiator that circulates water that must be cooled. My school lost a whole render system to water cooling because it couldn't keep up during the summer and ambient temps plus workloads.

Though with 4 of them, it's possible you don't even see high loads unless deliberate.

I just bought the World Creator and was attracted by his introduction. Unfortunately, my graphics card gtx780ti does not support DirectX 11.1, so cool real-time simulations cannot run. My video card only supports DirectX 11 and DirectX 12, but this number requires DirectX 11.1. This is very frustrating.

It all looks very promising, although I have to say that many of the images in their gallery still look a bit Brycy, but that will probably change in the future.
What is interesting for me is the possibility to design and sculpt terrains.

Exactly!  You can't export the objects to Terragen.  But for quickly sculpting a terrain to fit into a TG scene, WC seems perfect.

Yeah the ST veg is locked to WC which took the shine off the nickel for me. I really prefer TG over all of the others I've demo'd and I was a Bryce nut for a looooong time and even moderated the forum at rendo for a while.

I purchased WC to replace World Machine, since WM seemed to be slowly dying.

Sad, though I have to be honest when I see WC mentioned on forums and such it usually pertains to a problem.
