Title: A very very sad news
Post by: kaedorg on August 07, 2015, 03:43:32 PM
Sorry guys to give such sad news but for many of us this man was important in our Terragen community.

Robert Choronzuk known here as Chononr passed away the 27th of July.

I will remember him, his advices, his comments, his helps and his talent.
I feel sad tonight. And I think many of you who had a special relation with him too.

I put below the link of his obituary

R.I.P Bob

Oh wow, that's really sad to hear! I was always amazed at his talent and humble nature, and his age seldom occurred to me except when he reminded us of his "old codger" ways in gently humorous tone. He was a great contributor here, and I share his love of the Southwest that he so often depicted with great beauty. May he forever enjoy in spirit those lands  he loved so much!

It does Kadri, but it sure looks like he lived a full life! I am glad, at least, of that. I will certainly miss him around here.

An important piece of who we are is within the work that we do and how we express ourselves within the arts and we can honor that legacy even though he is gone by always appreciating what he did here for this is how we can all remember him.

My deepest condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Though this is not about me, I will miss him very much. We had a lot of off-forum communication about Terragen and he was a keen and modest artist. I recently wondered how he was, as I knew he was going to have an operation. I am very sorry and I wish his family and friends all the strength they need.

Oh boy, I just read the sad news. Although we never met in person, I always liked his work and his friendly comments and I think he was the only one here, who answered each comment on his work.  :)
The good thing in this forum is, that Bob somehow lives on here. There's still his work and his comments.
Farewell, Bob!

Wow, saddest news this month....He will be missed by me for sure as I was always asking him how he did what he did and he was unfailing in his replies. From the video which gave me wet eye syndrome, he looks to have had a beautiful life full of beautiful folks...my sympathies to them as their loss is way more immediate.

Very sad. Bob's encouraging comments and back and forths really helped keeping me engaged and I will miss them. We even casually discussed a regional TG meetup, one that will now never be realized. His love for the American desert southwest was beautifully expressed in his accomplished renders. RIP choronr!

I already knew from the TG updater but didn't see this topic.

Absolutely saddest news this month.
After following the link it hurts even more, because now there is a real face behind a before more virtual person.

He was one of the first to welcome me here, thanks Chononr.

Very sad news.

I've always respected the way you looked at where you live in Arizona and tried to recreate it.

I'm a little surprised at how the members of this forum honor his memory
honestly, I never met him personally, but each message here with him, showed me that was a great guy,
and Also a really great artist. a true inspiration for anybody who saw his works, and for me...
RIP Chroner

Well he was pushing/pulling TG sliders since the early beginning.
I'm using TG since 0.9x, about 15 years ago or so, but he was already around for a while then, imagine.

So despite not meeting someone in real life -I understand your point about it- you get a good idea/impression about someone's personality I think.

This is true, if you talk to someone on-line long enough and as long as the other person is a mature and honest individual, you do get to know them to enough of a degree.

Yes, it's interesting to feel connected to a person when all you know of them is text, and maybe images. But I would like to think I got a sense of him as a person through his communications, both public here on the forums, and privately on occasion. And while I never heard the sound of his voice, looked him in the eyes, or shook his hand, over his 15+ year time working with Terragen and sharing his creativity with us I do feel a connection developed. And it's that connection, and the person he was who made such connections, that I will miss.

Some of you may recall that back in 2004, Bob and I and Paul Clavette and Buzzzzz (Jay Testerman) and our families took a vacation together in Sedona, Arizona.  We spent a wonderful time hiking through the high desert, discussing Terragen, taking photos for future renders, and enjoying each others company.  All of us had met through Terragen and admired each others work, but it was Bob that started the ball rolling, planning the trip, and he was the glue that stuck us together, despite the fact that we had never met in person.  I had no doubt that we would all get along and indeed we did, famously.  It's a trip that I will never forget.  Bob had the biggest heart and smile and most gentle ways. What a treasure he was to this community and what a friend he was to everyone who took the time to get to know him, even if it was just by email. I will miss him terribly.

Though still sad, it's great to hear you've had the pleasure of meeting him in person and getting to know him better.

I remember your nickname...still TG'ing?

I think I won't say anything new here but Robert helped me as well. I still have his solutions for night sky on my old machine including a great moon image map and he shared those with me, though we hardly knew each other. It's so sad to hear he's gone. May his soul find solace.

Indeed Martin, I am still doing renders from time to time for my own pleasure.  But, to be honest, while I had a good understanding of the original program, I cannot make TG2/3 do what I want.  I fear that my brain is not keeping up with the technology any longer.  Perhaps, if more people did tutorials like yours, I would be able learn enough to make better images, but until then I shall render in the privacy of my own home and will have to refuse to share my poor offerings!

Best to all,
Steve Courtright

Such sad news!

I've been away from Terragen for many years and just thought about starting again.  Saw the news over at Renderosity today.
Had many a discussion with Bob during our days at Rendo ( the days of Joshushund, stbc, markal, rids, christianfly, prutzworks, hillrunner, Buzzzzz, superior...and so many more) ...what a great guy and talented artist he was.

Will miss you Bob.
