Title: Logo
Post by: sjefen on March 27, 2017, 06:02:00 AM
Hi,

I'm working on a logo to put on my images as a signature, but I haven't done anything
like this before, so I'd like some inputs on what you guys think.

It is built on my initials. The "T" and "H", if you can se it? I took away one part of the H cause
it didn't look right, but maybe I was wrong.

Any input is welcome  :)

I understand what you mean by it looking like the Skoda logo. Had to check it out to se how similar they
where, but I think I'm in the clear  ;)

I think it's good it's not easy to see the letters. Like only if you know what to look for, you see it, but since
I've already told they are there and you still can't see them, maybe I have to fix something  :D

Well maybe it only me who cannot see it...
I did several logo designs before and its always good to make some versions. You never know...maybe the 3rd one will be your favorite.

Honestly, I'm not sure I can see the letters either.

I like the design. The letters are there for me. Not too blatant, not too obscure.

I can "force" myself to see the letters but they are otherwise not obvious to me.
I would take a look at logos from vfx, film or other companies that you like and see what it is about them that is appealing to you.
Ask yourself what the pourpose of the logo is and if litteral legability is important or relevent.
For example the Planetside logo has no text on it but the shape of the ring round the planet makes an obvious "P".
Your logo looks like a receeding road or a ploughed field. I like the road idea but not so much the field ... that's just me thoiugh.
Also the thin inner circle is pixelating at low res, I would remove it and while you're at it check whatever logo you have at vairous sizes, small, tiny and medium and large. Also check different colour combinations. and against different backgrounds.

I think I may need to look again at my logo now :)

Alright. Thanks for the input guys. I will work more on this or try to make something new.

The goal is that it's just suppose to look like a logo, but if you know about the letters, you'll see them.

Cheers,
Terje

I've worked a little more on this.
Still the same style, but changed it a little. Is this any better?

If that was mine I would add at least the horizontal bar of the H.
As wide as the white between the black bars.
Maybe playing with bringing the vertical T bar closer to the top to create
a visual context so to say.
See example, just not as sloppy as I did.
And I would try to get the distance between the black bars to be the same.
Sometimes it takes a while to find the right balance.
Keep trying.

 8) From my point of view you are definitely on the right track now.
Clean and readable even at thumbnail size.
And I like the spiral effect of this version.

Hopefully some of the others will share their opinion, too.

I could not see your two initials in the first version of your logo even after being told they were in there. Yours is the sort of reasoning I used to come up with my company logo. Instead of my initials, I was using the two dominant consonants of the company name "TechnoVenture". Problem is that many people see the two capital letters and want to break it into two words. So what I did was to only capitalize the middle 'V' so the single word has symmetry about it, leaving the beginning 'T' in lower case. In the first version of the logo you could see the T and V right off. But I didn't like the looks of it. As I made ad hoc changes to the image it began to remind me of the face and camera lenses of the invading aliens in the 1953 movie "War of the Worlds" based on the science fiction by H. G. Wells. I really like that so I removed the support bar of the T and joined it inside the V. It was an upside down version of the face in WOTW.  I also used the RGB colors in the WOTW motif. What I now think it looks like is a psychedelic uterus where an embryo might grow inside. I really liked that idea as my company is something like an incubator for high-tech products. Below are relevant images. I really liked WOTW as a kid and the images really stuck with me. These sorts of evolutionary changes are very interesting. You never know where they will lead you. I think your logo is much more artistic than mine. But then I think of myself as more of an engineer than an artist. Here is my first animated version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPLFeUj8h7E. This one is stereoscopic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpBfUsMNiQ0. This one has an animated watermark logo with another animation at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqAToB4sd6E

I'm still working on this. After looking at it for a while, it started looking to cartoony, so now I'm at something different again.

Thanks for all the input so far guys. I'll post a new version soon.

Terje
