Terragen Support / Re: 'Popping' in the reflectio...

Sorry for the late reply. Somehow we missed this one.

It looks to me like the pop happens in the reflections of the clouds; is that your belief too?

I see that you're using a GI cache file (or sequence), which is good. I wonder if there is an issue with the cache file sequence, such as running out of frames, or a mix of files from different cache generation renders. If you haven't ruled out that possibility, that might be a place to look.

Did you render the image sequence on one computer? If so, did you pause and resume the sequence at some point? Could this have happened at the frame where the pop occurs? You should be able to pause and resume without problems, but it seems like one of the more likely places that a bug could occur.

I would suggest running another low resolution test (and perhaps with a limited crop region around the lake) on the same frame range that you uploaded here, and see if the pop happens exactly the same as it did the first time. If it's 100% reproducible on the same frame then that's going to make it much easier for us to reproduce the issue here and figure out a bug fix.

Very intriguing again. The 'vertical' duststorm is a really nice touch. And btw, I wonder how Kadri is - with all the fuss in Turkey and all.

A desert planet orbits a close binary star system consisting of two sun-like stars. They are so close that they appear almost as one star in the planet's sky.
The constantly changing gravitational forces in this system have caused most of the planets that formed to either fall into one of the suns, be thrown out of the system, or collide with each other.
My hypothetical planet is one of the few "survivors" on a now-stable orbit.
Strong winds have, over eons, rounded and smoothed the basalt columns in this area, leaving this stepped landscape.

Thanks again to Kadri for his "Vertical Strata"-Terrain which I used and "distorted"...

Thanks for the test object, I'll check it out asap.

Currently the script lays out all the groups with their image map shaders in a horizontal row, all nice and neat.  I selected the groups corresponding to each default shader via a drag-select bounding box and then moved them closer to their default shaders.  I'm still experimenting with how the nodes are laid out.

Right now there is no UI for the script; just select some default shader nodes and run the script, but if we make a UI version we could definitely add an option to place the image map shaders in the internal node network of each group.  Great ideas!!

Hey Kevin, looks interesting, here's a test object I use:

Textures should be OCIO compliant.

Did your script layout the TG nodes nicely as is your screengrab? Maybe, as an option, the Image maps could be nested inside each group?

Clouds are all Terragen. One high level cirrus barely visible on the right and the other an Easy Cloud. I distance faded the clouds so that they were completely masked at the camera visual margin.... so as not to affect the sunlight on the trees. I also moved the cloud layer from the Above View to get the best clouds over the mountain.

Okay, I took the bait.

I've been thinking about digitalguru's question about using RPC to automate the setup of shaders and nodes for a udim mapped object.

The script is almost ready to be released but I would love to test it out on some objects, and that's where you guys come in.

Does anyone have any assets they can share with udim texture coordinates?  I'd like to see a bigger picture of how these assets are being exported from a 3D package and their material assignments, etc.  Feel free to upload them to the File Sharing > Objects forum category or email them to support@planetside.co.uk

Here's a screengrab example showing the results of the script.  I simply selected a bunch of nodes Default shader nodes and ran the script.  The script added new nodes for Groups and Image Map shaders, and updated the appropriate parameters for each node including the connections between nodes and their default shader.  I've tested it on udim mapped assets with 100 images in the sequence.

Thanks for sharing any assets you're able to, and I hope to be able to get this script released shortly.

Yes, at least these kind of renders (and working on them) takes us away from looming next depression and WW3. Great work! I love the rocky river. Are the clouds TG or photo? They are beautiful too.

I've just started playing around in Blender.  I'd love to see your workflow from Blender to Terragen, even if you think they're simple scripts!
