Lots of pictures. Title says it all. ;D Surfacing is just a basic planet surfacing designed for space shots because the examining the displacement was purpose of these renders.

Brilliant, love the last one :)
Richard
Very impressive. Seriously, this is great stuff.
Great stuff.
Great images ... I don't know how you do that ... but it's wonderful...
Man you're definitely the planet creation master ;D Kudos!! five stars, especially the last one.
Wow... I bow down to the creator ;D
I've been watching the 1st season of Star Trek Next Generation. The planets they made back in 1986 are not exactly wonderful. These pics are. A little work with clouds, and these would rival the planets made for Battle Star Galactica. (the 2000 version)
Awesome! I want to see more ;D
Great Work, bravo!
Yes good work !
That last one is EPIC! :o
Set 4 and Set 7 are my favourites. Though this is for planetary testing you really could develop these :) Pure awesomeness 8)

It will come in a NWDA pack ;D.
Thanks for all the comments.
That news makes me happy ;D
Extraordinary work, this should be followed by a tutorial ;D
For the first time I see real scalled mountains on a planet shot. The previous or were too flat or were too high compared to the altitude of the pov. These are perfect!!! Definitely, a must buy... If at least there was a way to draw the continents exactly as we wanted. Maybe something for further improvement.
Quote...If at least there was a way to draw the continents exactly as we wanted...
I suppose that would be possible now with the painted shader. you could paint the general continent shapes and use it as a displacement, then you could use another power fractal with a smaller feature scale and displacement to add details to the painted landmass. I don't know if this would work since I have never tried but I bet it would work.
Yes you have achieved the holy grail of Planet building, popper continents. I'd love to know how you managed to get the coast line, all I seem to be able to get is a stack of islands off the coast and a bunch of lakes just inside the coast line. I think this is because the fractal terrains displace both up and down from their mean. go on give us a clue how you did it :o)
I'll buy the nvseal planet pack for sure but can I wait that long? (heck I been trying to get this right for ooh three years now!!!!!)
Back to work now!! ;D

Believe it or not I am stlil working on the coast island problem. What I did here was actually really simple. I made a surface layer and restricted the altitude to the shore level of the ocean. Then I copied that surface layer and used it as the displacement function of the original. I set the dispalcement to a high negative value (i.e. -5000) to get rid of the islands. This method has some problems which I am still working out and it won't work unless the planet displacements go through a compute terrain.
Ooh now theres an idea ... :) thanks
richard
One more for good measure ;D

The only thing missing is the US Air Force using the Star Wars defense weapons to shoot down UFO's. Great render!
very convincing stuff....well done!!
This is really cool, to see all those different scales.
You should have seen me. I practically lit up like a new sun looking at those! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

TheBlackHole, this is not my thread and maybe i should not say anything. Writing in the forums are sometimes very difficult.İt is easy to interpret something the wrong way. İf i am wrong please excuse me. But take this as an FREE advise : Please be careful how you respond in the forums.
İ don't mean it the harsh way.İt would be nice if we could make this dialogue facing one another.
Thanks.

what you really need is to work on your TG skills so you'll be able to do that by yourself so you won't need to whine about free stuff on several thread.
nvseal, IMO, is the best realistic planet creator on TG2. He worked on this one for a long time... so... well I guess you won't be able to do this quality of works before some quite looong training.
@RArcher - LOL
...and I can't wait until it's available, depending on availability of that little ol' thing called dollares. ;D

;D This is cracking me up ;D. I can't understand why there would be any talk of cost anyway... NWDA packs cost peanuts and the results are top notch. The amount of work that goes into this is monumental and all for a few dollars... Bargain. nvseal.... Great work!

I like FREE downloads. Not buying stuff over the Internet. Especially in a different monetary unit. Not even in a million years could I do ANYTHING even REMOTELY like that. I will NEVER pay for some bits and bytes in a computer. I don't care if it's the best TG2 stuff in the UNIVERSE, I will NEVER pay for downloads! And I don't give a CRAP what the price is! If it's over 0, then I'm not buying!!!!>:(

The file itself is basically done, I just need to work up a read me file and do one or two little tweaks. I've just been swamped with stuff to do and havn't had time to really work on it.
@TheBlackHole - Everybody likes free stuff. But you need to remember that nobody here owes you anything and your comments seem to have a "give me" attitude. The simple fact of the matter is that I have worked a long time to try to accomplish what -- I think -- this planet set-up realizes. I don't think all that work is worthless. You may think so and that is fine, but I don't really understand what you are trying to accomplish with your comments. Moreover, the coming pack is not just a collection of cloud settings or surface textures which can be used in a specific scene but a file allowing the user to generate an entire planet with enough fidelity to be used as space shots down into the atmosphere. The file can be used to generate just space images, just landscape images or both -- it really doesn't matter. The point is that the potential uses of the file are extensive to say the least and, if I do say so myself, quite valuable. And just so you know, if it wasn't for the potential to get something back, this file would probably never be released in any form.
Wow nvseal, when you describe your project like that it pretty much triples the certanty that I will buy it when it is released! I look forward to that day ;D
I am looking forward to more renders of this project. Unfortunately, I am saving for a new computer. I am trying to decide on getting a consumer quad or just saving until I can get the latest home supercomputer in 8 months.
What I have seen and read is quite intriguing. I might skip a couple pizza deliveries, and get this. FrankB's default taught me a few things. This could be a very good investment.
I'm still not buying it unless you offer it for free. >:(

It's a comet.
What does a comet have anything to do with this issue?
It is only fair to reward oneself for hard work and lengthy effort in the creation of a product with a little compensation. This is not a selfish act nor is it by any means an unfair act as the prices that NWDA have been charging have been quite fair to say the least. You know these guys could be greedy jerks and price themselves out of business entirely but i am sure most reasonable folks will come to the conclusion that the prices are within reason even for the low-income. I could be on Welfare and still buy these packs.
I think he meant comment. ;D
Good luck with your own planet creation TheBlackHole as you will not be getting this for free... and you won't be getting much help round here if you keep up the bad attitude.

As far as I can make out, you would be paying for the time and effort gone into making this. By the way... have you ever bought any software? You know, the bits and bytes that make your computer work. ::)
Simon.
I have bought software. But it came with a CD and some packaging. I didn't just pay to download it, I actually bought a box with a CD inside and the data was on the CD. And I don't give a crap what a comet has to do with this issue. As I said before, I don't give a crap what the price is if it's over 0. If it's not free, I'm not going to pay for it over the Internet. And how the crap am I supposed to pay in euros if I don't have any euros? I'm in Iowa!
Ok, we get it, you are not going to buy nvseal's stuff, thanks for sharing. I am sure there are plenty of people who are perfectly willing to fork over some money for it (myself included). Also I am forced to wonder if you have ever heard of an exchange rate; it is how countries with different currencies do business. A certain number of dollars are converted into the appropriate number or euros without you having to do a thing.
That said, I would be absolutely thrilled to get back to this thread's purpose of anticipating any news or new test images of nvseal's work.
Well, what is the ^$@*ing exchange rate?!

You are righ but i want to say one last thing about this Free debate.
TheBlackHole, in case you don't know everyone loves free things. Me too. İ have not bought anything from Planetside or Nwda. But you are writing in such a way that sounds that you don't give a merit to the work that have been done. This is not nice.
İ made 2 pictures with TG2. and belive me this kind of things (Procedural Planets or Seths rocks and such) are not easy to make.
İ won't comment about this anymore.
Thanks.
Kadri.
I do know how much effort has been put into this, but I put up a map on my site that I put a lot of effort into, and you don't see me charging for it! And if I used it in anything, I'd give credit (at least for the first few times :D) and I might learn from it and use that knowledge to (almost infinitely slowly) learn how it works and I might even try my own. And I still don't know what the exchange rate is. For all I know, several euros might be several HUNDRED dollars!
Oh Wow! Those latest pictures are simply amazing! Great work nvseal, I am really looking forward to when you get the chance to release this! :)

I just figure 1 Euro is 2 Dollars. It's not quite that much, but it gives a ball park figure. I am also quite tight with money, but if there is something worthwhile I do not mind saving for it, then buying it. It took me almost four months to buy the license for Terragen 2. I am glad I did so. There are several packs on the NWDA site I want, I will pay the commercial amount for them. That way I can use them if I get some commercial work. It could happen someday.
With that exchange rate, I'll never be able to afford stuff from NWDA. The Martian-looking rockes, Seth said, were 150 euros. $300!?!?!?!?!? :o :o >:( >:(
Oh Wow! Those latest pictures are simply amazing! Great work nvseal, I am really looking forward to when you get the chance to release this! :)
TheBlackHole - Seth was kidding. Go to the NWDA site at www.nwdanet.com to see the real prices, which are very reasonable.
nvseal - yes, I too am eagerly awaiting this pack!
I took a peek at the new images, and they are impressive. Your pack is on the list of packs available at NWDA I want to purchase. Now comes the obnoxious Flickr banner... ;D
Let's hope we don't see you render anything with it then. Quit trying to piss people off.
And I might add that nvseal has been working on this concept for years. This is a big deal, since he isn't a slouch and he is very acute in his skills with TG2.

Dude this profesional software and it is expensive.
if you wanted to know how much a euro was you
should have googled "curency calculator" or the like.
I feel this guy is like, what, a kid? NWDA stuff is cheap, and very high quality. Amounts to < $10 USD after exchange rates. It's insanely good value. How do you ever expect to own a copy of TG2 anyways to render high quality images of these planet scenes if you can't afford the $10 to get the NWDA pack? At least, have a better attitude about people who want to make money off their hard work?
There was a thread (it is removed now) he said he is 12 years old. In the meantime there was a little(!) crisis . But now it seams to be calm . I think you missed those events.
There is no need to lengthen(?) this matter.
Don't get me wrong our reaction was the same as yours :)
Cheers.

Yes, my apologies, I seemed to be late to the party, so to speak. This planet, btw, is epic. It goes beyond trumping my feeble efforts ;)
