I've scrapped my last image and started this one. Maybe a hot mineral pool with a steam vent and some thick clouds of steam spewing upward ...we'll see. Much more to do here.

I think you should try the luminous bottom (painted shader it in if necessary) plus a bluish density color in the water shader.
