Title: how to make candyfloss object?
Post by: 149047 on September 11, 2011, 04:56:49 PM
Hi all!
Newbie here ;)
If I wanted to make an object look like made of candyfloss/cotton wool - would the cloud fractal shader be the way to go?

Yes, I think clouds would be the way to go, as you'll be able to achieve an impression light scattered through them and to some extent achieve some volumetric detailed effects along the edges. For close-ups where you want to see actual strands, it might get tricky and need some pretty high quality settings, but clouds are the only way you could really get any 3D detail in the object.

I think someone here showed some renders of clouds with solid filament-like structures a few years ago. Anybody know where that thread is?

Unfortunately you won't be able to get that 3D detail just by applying a shader to an imported object - you'd need to build the object using a cloud layer with shaders to define its shape.
