Post by: rosoule on February 13, 2018, 02:36:56 PM
I have TG2 but cannot locate the simple shade shaders.

TG2...hmmm that was long time ago but try here:

Shaders- Add layer- Color shader or Displacement shader...

Nope, tried that

more to the point, there was a way to add an image file that would displace the terrain like a heightfield based on the tonal range, that is what I want to dol

Sounds like an Image map shader under Displacement shader.

Got it, but what settings for the Image Map?

not sure if I understand your question. What do you want to achieve? Give more details and I will try to answer.

Me neither. :-\

I guess the setting in the image map shader you're looking for is "Plan Y (edges=XZ)". Then you'll have to move the image map shader to the desired location.

What about the simple shape shader you were initially looking for? Have you found it, or what did you want to do with it?

Instead of a Simple Shape Shader I want to import an image file that will, based  on the tonal range, create a displacement.  No Heightfield, just the displacement from an image. The spiral in this scene is a displacement, not an object.
I used to do this with ease, but it's been a few years and I don't recall how.
I am attaching an example file.

If you have a grayscale picture (I use a tiff file for this usually) then put that through the Displacement shader/image map shader. In the image map shader under the displacement tab put some displacement value.

Thanks, I can work with that
