This is the best synthesizer ever made. If you've got a good listening system or headphones you'll hear why. Absolutely beautiful sound. It costs £15000 for a good one though. At least that's what I saw one go for. To be honest though, this thing could be a maintenance nightmare. You'd need to be loaded with money to have this. The days of picking up cheap old analog synths are almost over but there are still a few bargains.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNpJZWWGdq8I've got it's little brother, a CS50. That's not even in the same league but still cool. I have two Super Basstations and a Roland Juno 106. These are bargains. However, the Roland now costs twice what I paid. I have a Dave Smith Tetra - great new synth for the cost. I also have a Moog Voyager which is not such a bargain but awesome. As for the Matrix 1000. That is such a bargain I bought two.
For digital sounds, my best instrument is in fact a Kurzweil PC3x. I use that as a master keyboard.
One of the best synth plugins if you can call it that, is Pianoteq. However, I'm a bit biased in this respect because I do music on Linux and there is a Linux Pianoteq. I just don't use Windows and I only use my Macbook to run the Valhalla plugins and BFD2 (a drum sample bank player).
All I'm saying is, computer synth plugins are cool and different sounds are achievable but there are still some bargains in old analog synths. If you have any one of these you will love it. The Dave Smith Tetra is a great new analog synth though.
