I am currently putting together a huge pack (34 models 7 species) of HQ ground covers for terragen 2
the pack includes
oxe eye daiseys x4
saut horn (kind of weed looks very nice) x3
undergrowth grass x4
dock plant x3
buttercups x4
field nettlesx4
field poppy x4
swamp grass x4
this pack will really add a lot of realism to peoples scenes in terragen 2
there have been a lot of scenes i have seen that are very good but for ground covers the just use like a species of grass so it turns out not as realistic as you think.
with this pack you would be able to revolutionise you scenes with weeds under bush flowers and much more!!
The pack will also include custom made textures plus pdf documentation and screenshots.
This pack is not going to be free its going to be 15 dollars US (about 7.1/2 Quid)
i think this price is very reasonable since there are a lot of models here. you would be hard pushed to find a model pack else where as cheap as this is going to be. Over on turbo squid you would probably be paying in the hundreds :)
it will be going on sale in about 2-3 days time will anyone be interested?
thanks jack ;D
p.s the models are all made im just texturing them at the moment!
It sounds interesting. Sell it inexpensively if you want, but emphasize its quality rather than its price. I don't care if it is the lowest priced set available. I do care about quality of the set, the efficient modeling and texturing you used, the speed at which it renders, and the improvement it will make to the look of my scene. If it includes low-poly count trees or highly realistic and detailed plants with more polys, if you properly sized and compressed quality textures from real plants, you used smart modeling techniques, say so. That said I'll be looking for it when it goes on sale. Good luck!
p.s. Any plans to take a crack at these jungle trees? http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4425.0
I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, but will definately consider this in a few weeks or so!....sounds very interesting!
I'm very interested and I have to say it is quite cheap for such an amount of models.
Can you post some examples to show the quality of these models?
I can save the money for this, but I hope I have the possibilty to pay using Paypal for instance, since I don't have any creditcard.
Martin
cool ;D
yes of coarse they are hq! ;D
i am the kind of guy who wont stop until its near perfect ;D
I would never put crummy plants on sale i would feel awful :-[
the textures are around 1024x1024 dimensions so they are very crisp and clear
TU
im going to post it over here
http://www.digitalelements.be/ (http://www.digitalelements.be/)
it doesn't seem to be working at the moment though which is worrying :-\
I can pay with paypal there I see, great!
To my taste packages like these are more interesting than single models, just for your interest of course.
Looking forward to see your page/packages there.
Martin
I might be. I need to think about it and mull it over a bit. ;D <-- Choosy shopper
groundcovers are always welcomed...
Yep I pay ya your duckets bro make thumbs of the trees and ground pack so we can see what you made would be cool /winks & /smiles....
Let us know when and where the direct link is up and it is working /smiles....
Oh and Ilona (Rendo Artist) and I are making model/background Content for Poser and Daz and Vue to be released very soon the first few packs that is, and we hope in a while for TG2 when we can get better models in /smiles.....
DT
seven and a half quid sounds a great price, one request though, can you release the obj's so those who can can modify the plants (keeping within your eula of course;) )?
Thanks and bring it on :)
Richard
I'm definitely interested; keep us up with the details.
Lightning, I'm interested. In which formats will the plants be available?
You have my attention. As others have indicated, I would be interested in some examples of what you are offering in the package.
Certainly more interested in a large pack for $15 than for a single or couple trees for the same amount. I would expect that for the enthusiast/hobbyist crowd that you have here at planetside larger packs of models at smaller prices will net you more interest and cash in the long run than small packs for more money. I would have long since bought the Xfrog DVD's if they were a reasonable price, but for someone using TG for fun, $200 per DVD is far too expensive.
/chuckles..... you got that right ;)
DT
WOW big response :o!!!!
The formats im going to release just at the moment is going to be an obj pack and a tgo pack
If the pack turns out to be successful then i will post more formats ;D
I have just finished my textures for the plants now few!!!
i have to now convert them all and texture them in terragen 2 then i will show you some screen shots
(i Must say you are going to be in for a treat when you see them ;D ;D ;D!
the final pack will be
5 butter cup models ranging from 1-5 heads per model
4 wild daisy models ranging from 1-4 heads
4 dandelion models ranging from1-2 stems per model (these are very high res)
4 dock plants one with green buds one flowering and one with no buds just leaves
4 field nettle models ranging from small to large and one with two stems
4 field poppys ranging from 1-2 stems per plant
4 spring grass models
4 swamp grass models
Can't wait.
15 bucks? for all that? nice.... will definitely take you up on that deal ;)
Can you shoot us some Pics of what we are going to buy as a sneak peak? Please /smiles....
DT
yeah im currently doing my textures at the moment i had a big delay due to a fault of my own i had the testures where being assigned to all the wrong places so i had to remodel about half of them but its alright now should have some renders to show you tomorow morning my time (gmt +13)
ok i rendered some images of the plants that will be in the model pack

Spring grass

Nice work. The textures look great: Did you model these from real plants? What's the polycount?
what do you mean by real plants? that these are actually real plant species if so Yes :)
and i dont have the exact polycounts but the maximum plant is about 15 mb and the lowest is about 500kb
the pack altogether will be about 38mb compressed
the poppies still need a little more work i think i need to add some outer pettles
These are looking really good, I got £15 (oops I met $15 {£7.50 ish} :) ) waiting with your name on it :)
I'm glad your releasing the obj's as these will allow me to expand on your collection with further variations.
It would be great if PS could include some sort of random populator so one population could hold several plant species.
I also notice that the populators "vairation" button has gone (if that was it was called) , never could see how that was going to work.
Keep it coming
Richard
Great stuff, I as well will buy em /smiles....
DT
Thanks guys here are some more images the poppy has been redesigned and will be the final in the pack
the packs are uploading at the moment so not much more to wait!!!

i have just been doing some tests and for a good ground cover look
here is what i would do as default
i would add a dense base of the free high res grass alsong with some dock and field nettles
then a light layer of klasses grass also a light layer of the highland grass
then another layer more denser of the spring grass
then your options for plants
i would then mix some wild daisys the poppy bud flower some dandelions and some butter cups
mke sure there are not to many butter cups since they stand out abit
right the models are on sale here ;D

Great looking plants. Definitely worth the money. My only (minor) gripe is that the scale seems a tad off. An average human is between 1.5 and 2 meters tall. Your spring grass is quite a bit larger than that. Placing the camera in Terragen at "eye level" results in the plants towering over your head. I realized I can adjust the scale in the population dialog box so its not a huge deal, but I'm always of the opinion that you should strive to keep scale "real" across your projects. Just a suggestion.
yes i agree with you i have no way of re scaling them well i didnt when i modeled them i do now i have made a scale scene in a program called nevercenter silo so my plant from now on will be to scale which will be cool ;D
Hay bought the pack, but have not had the time to play as I am rendering something in TG2 now that will take a few days to render. Once that is done I will test these babbies out /winks. Good to know on the sizing issue.
DT
Great program!!
