Title: Render image like this
Post by: iaminonsiner on January 17, 2019, 03:01:40 PM
Hi !

I would like to know what is the best way to have a render like that with lights ?

[attach=1]

When I say " like that ", I mean have a scene where I can have a localized unique light source, not a sun, I don't talk about the character or the sphere.

Thank !

First test...

Weird noise, do you know why ?

hi, maybe this helps you to get started.
Look at the settings of the Light Source especially.
Sunlight Strength is turned down to 1.

Everything else is at (my) Default Settings.

Hello Klausk !

This night, I tried to modify my settings and I managed to remove the noise and I have the same result as you  8)

Do you think can I " apply " this light on an object ?

I tried to replicate the lighting conditions of your reference image.
I created two spheres, one orange sphere with luminosity set to 7, which is "invisible" in the render settings, so that it casts an orange light onto the environment, without being visible, and a white sphere with a luminosity set to 3 and "visible to other rays" unchecked, so that you can see the white sphere, but it doesn't cast (a white) light.
This could be problematic if you'd want to have this puddle of water below the character, because the reflection would be orange as well.

There's a small lightsource that illuminates the character a bit. A quite unnatural lighting I'd say, because in the reference image nothing is lit from behind except the character.

Wow, really impressive !

I will try to repoduce something like that. I didn't know until your post I could add this brightness to an object.

I can't find the " invisibility " and  " visible to others rays " settings, can you show me your settings ?

It's in the object's "rendering" tab.
As far as I remember this works best for imported objects.

Another way would be to use one white slightly selfilluminated visible sphere ("cast shadows" unchecked) and an orange lightsource (specular highlights unchecked) exactly at the center of the sphere with a very high strength (in this case 60000) and an appropriate Max distance.

Thank you.

My first test :

Do you think can I add image to cover the sphere ?

I thin if yes, I could add fractal image to make something he look like a sun.

Yes, if the UV mapping is correct.
And don't forget to put the texture into the luminosity as well.

Works.

Really beautiful but how can I do that ? This is my first test with add objects in Terragen so I don't know how to add " image " on a object...

Ok, I think I have found the way to do that myself...

If you have or can find a spherical projected image (equirectangular, that's these 2:1 shaped images), you should copy the position of the sphere to the image map shader location and set it to spherical.

What Ulco said.
Btw, in this last image it was just a power fractal, no image.
