this is probably my most complex render so far... and first use of planet objects and fake stone shaders...

nice work :) stones look good as do the clouds... ;D
Everything looks good. I like the atmosphere of the drawing and it feels like I could go out on that ledge and jump into the clouds. What's underneath them? :o
a big fall lol....
heres another my first render splitting half onto each core of the cpu and then merging in CS2... doesn't look too bad,
download file http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~rawjdmbj/downloads/render9.zip
Nice! Did you split horizontally or vertically?
Rich
vertically
heres the final render with this file... rendered in 1 peice 10hrs 40mins
i'll add the terragen file into the same render9.zip file for anyone who dares take interest

What was your ocean/water settings? I haven't been able to achieve this effect yet...
Thanks
I notice that you are rendering more than 50% of the width in the two renders. What method did you use to combine them? This would definately have a benificial effect on the "edges don't match exactly" problem.
Rich
I would like to know how you combined the images too...
i opened each one in paintshop pro and cropped them, and noticed 1 was 1 pixel higher than the other but that was soon fixed with a crop too... i make a blank images the dimensions of both halves conbinned and then copied each half in as seperate layers so they can be selected 1 by 1 and then just lined them up... i know photo shop cs2 has a photo merge but i can't get that working as well...
For people interested in how to join two halves of an image, the easiest way is to render each half with an overlap and then open them in Photoshop. From there you can set up a canvas of the size you want (the size of the 100% render). paste the left image in and then the right image. Line both so they match up and then add a layer mask to the right image layer. Now you can paint away the hard line down the middle using the layer mask and black airbrush. (by painting black onto the layer mask, you make it transparent and able to see through to the layer below). This is very easy and takes about 10 mins if that to do.
Hopes this helps, Simon.
I was hoping there might be an easier method that my software could exploit to automatically recombine images from frames that have been split. The methods above both involve human input.
if you have photo shop cs2 or elements, then i'd try a simple render then try the photomerge panaramic function and see if that works..
That sounds good and fairly automated - I'll try it when I have time...
As soon as a render is finished or aborted, you find a copy of it in your temporary-files (if checked). Also there is a mask you can use to cut off the blacks.

a little experiment with this render and probably last time I'll use it... got the idea from here

I need to get some 3d glasses with all these anaglyph images being made 8)
i might make a few more... they seem semi good. just need to render two images = lots of rendering
I am working on an Imax stereoscopic animated feature at the moment and this thread reminds me too much of work...hehe.
But my office does have a mini theatre with stereoscopic cameras so we can have a look at our shots, and it's pretty sweet. I had a really quick look at a couple of images in this thread on the screen and it looks cool.
...lucky.... ;) Yes theres got to be a better way though, we need a plug in that can do all this in a single rendered image. or a way of compling to two shot before the render.
Regards,
Will
yeah i saw that Callipygian 3D also does stereoscopic images...when i started rendering this pic today.. got to use a steroscope quite a bit during my degrees in some ways it provides a much better 3d affect though it all depends on who the viewer is.. try tutoring 40+ people with them at the same time:( lol....
still it would be cool to see how a teragen render looks under one though....
Yep... these anaglyphs are good fun... it would be good to have a short cut, but unless there is a way to do this in one render (I don't think there is). There are apps that do the anaglyph part, but that's the easiest and quickest bit, so it's not much help. You could always run to TG2s together rendering the 2 shots simultaneously, but this would be more feasible when TG2 has been optimised.
i guess this will be more of an experiment than actual renders specifically for this effect unless they are small renders like this one which don't require endless amounts of ram , since then i can use 2 pcs to render it:D 1hr 50mins on each pc to render this one today...:D...

There is currently no way that I know of to create that effect in a single render, and if there was it probably would take just as long as doing them seperately anyway.
ok i don't know why i didn't think of this before but using Callipygian 3d you only need to render 1 image and add the same one as left and right side. when you go to preview the anaglyph it will just look like the original image until you alter the bottom slide.. just tried it and i came up with this... looks very close to the one i posted previously which used 2 rendered images
Interesting... I've really got to get myself some 3D glasses.

Wow! I thought that Callipygian had potential for some interesting stuff...
I was wondering what you used to do the lens-flare in your second scene? I normally use solarcell to do post-processing sun effects but it doesn't have any lens-flare effects.
that was done in Photoshop CS2, though several of my renders do have lens flares done in paintshop pro...
how is solar flare at doing lensflare effects? is it worth getting/ trying?
I use Ability Photopaint (http://www.ability.com/sales/products/paint.php?ln=uk) 2000 to create lens flares.
Darkfire whats ability photopaint like with respects to adding lens flare?,, the only issue i have with cs2 and paintshop pro are their tiny preview windows which you have to apply the lens flare in, makes it hard to get it centered on a sun you are applying it to.... is this similar with ability photopaint?
Ability Photopaint has a similar 'tiny preview window' that lets you select where you want to have the lens flare (and displays the lens flare after you have selected a location) but it also has boxes where you can type in the exact coordinates of the centre of the lens flare (I'm not sure about whether these boxes are in other programs or not).
I only really use Ability Photopaint 2000 because I'm used to it and because I got a free copy from PCPlus (http://www.pcplus.co.uk/) years ago.
that sounds awesome being able to adjust the co-ordinates... i don't think psp or cs2 have that but i really wouldn't know they have so many options.... i downloaded Ability Photopaint demo and will give it a try:D
GIMP can do that too. And it's freeware!
