Title: fractal warp, the barren country (2 more)
Post by: Zairyn Arsyn on January 19, 2014, 11:13:15 PM
started working on this earlier this evening, i'm quite happy with it so far. :)

the terrain is just a terrain PF with redirect shaders.

the warped ridges were created by masking with the fractal warp shader with a cloud PF plugged into the input socket, on a surface layer.

C&C welcomed

Very impressive. Great work.

And I see a lot of use for such a technic. I stick your comments and try to follow them. Back if i have any question.

Hope to see more. Good job.

Its a good one Zlain.

Could make salt flats with this. Or even the trail of a giant man eating snail monster, which is what I hope your secretly working on. Looks cool just as it is too.

Great! I could imagine to use this method on creating foam on water.

Nice looks like icy snow

Has a different look to it. Good job. :)

doing a second render, the surface looks a lot more like ice now.

i made some changes to the terrain also.

v2
added an additional set of redirect shaders, with 2 edited copies of the fractal warp/cloud PF masks i mentioned before, one has a transform shader to rotate the mask, i used those as a mask shader for the x & z redirect power fractals.

C&C welcome

In this case I liked your first one better. The new one feels more certain. But the first image was experimental, or raw enough, that I could imagine it to be whatever I wanted. As the viewer I feel like I lost something. But the second image is probably very good anyway, its just hard to forget the feeling I got from the first one.
:)

Also, do I like this because I use TG, or would I like it anyway? I don't know anymore.

I think this is very convincing icy snow.  Perhaps some mountains in the background? a frozen tree?

both are different, different moods.
they could be in 2 different scenes with some foregrounds and atmos

Both are good anyway

i'm experimenting really, seeing what sort interesting terrain formations i can create, and make it look good.

i could add a height field for a mountain

This is impressive. Add a few Polar Bears and you've got the Arctic.

Very (n)ice. You should make this into a glacier tongue, or an iceflow between rocks and boulders. Some rocks on top, debris....
